My New Crush Gave to Me by Shani Petroff Review

 Hello Everyone :)

I pray today finds you all doing well, and I want to thank you all for joining me for another book review here on The Preppy Book Princess.

I'm one of those crazy readers who loves to read Christmas reads year round, especially if I'm having a particularly hard week as I always find them kind of soothing and uplifting.

However, there's always something extra special about getting to read Christmas stories during the months of November and December, as they feel extra festive and atmospheric.

I'm often lamented the fact in the past that there isn't a lot of young adult Christmas reads. I've read and enjoyed a few over the years, but every time I stumble upon a new one that sounds pretty clean, I'm always excited to dive right into it.

Today I can't wait to share with you all about one I recently had the opportunity to read.

Keep reading below for my full review.

The only problem he barely knows she exists.

But Charlie is determined to be Teo's date to the Christmas ball. And she has a plan: To rig the paper's Secret Santa so that she can win his heart with five perfect gifts. But to do that she needs help. Enter J.D. Ortiz Teo s cousin, and possibly the most annoying person on the planet. He's easy going, laid back, unorganized, spontaneous, and makes a joke out of everything the exact opposite of Charlie (and Teo). But he's willing to provide insight into what Teo wants, so she s stuck with him.

Yet, the more time Charlie spends with J.D., the more she starts to wonder: Does she really know what, or rather who, she wants for Christmas?

My Review:

I thought the synopsis of this one sounded slightly predictable, but also downright adorable. I usually enjoy the enemies to something more trope, and it definitely pulled me into this one.

The story was charming and sweet, and definitely gave me a case of the warm fuzzies. It was basically like reading a made for TV Christmas movie with young adult characters as the cast. I personally really enjoyed the friendship that develops between Charlie and J.D., and how they both begin to realize that there's much more to the other than they had thought at the beginning.

I also enjoyed the fact that the love triangle wasn't written as typically as I was expecting, and that was honestly a nice change. Perhaps one of my favorite parts of all was the beautiful friendship that exists between Charlie and her best friend Morgan, and I loved how they go to such lengths to encourage each other no matter the occasion.

This was cute and swoon worthy, and one I really ended up enjoying. My only complaints were the fact that Charlie's character is pretty annoying for the first half or so of the book, it's written a little more juvenile than I thought was necessary, and I would have loved to have gotten more of the backstory as to why it's only always been Charlie and her mom.

Overall, a cute, Christmas themed read that had many original components, and a plethora cast of likeable secondary characters. I appreciated that it was fairly squeaky clean with only a couple of minor content issues.

Final Rating: 3/5.

We need more young adult Christmas books like this one!

Thanks so much for reading guys! Have a great rest of your day :)

Della and Darby by Susannah B. Lewis Review

Happy Monday Friends :) I pray today finds you all doing well, and I'm so thankful you decided to stop by my little corner of the internet. My husband and I actually have this week off of work for a much needed holiday, and I'm excited for the many fun things we have planned. Aside from the fun things, I'm honestly thankful to have some extra time to get my house back in shape, and to get more organized for Christmas. I also hope to have lots of time to curl up with some great reads, and I recently had a chance to read one of my most anticipated 2023 releases! Earlier in the year, I read my first novel by Susannah B. Lewis, and I couldn't have loved it more. It was definitely one of my favorite reads of this entire year, and I've been looking forward to reading her next release ever since. If you'd like to check out that review, you can do so using the link below: Bless Your Heart Rae Sutton Otherwise, keep on reading down below for today's full review. De...

First Line Friday: Courting Mr. Emerson

Happy Friday Everyone :) Since it is Friday, I'll once again be participating in First Line Friday which is hosted by Hoarding Books .  For this week, I'm going to be sharing the first line from Melody Carlson's newest book, Courting Mr. Emerson. About The Book: When the fun-loving and spontaneous artist Willow West meets buttoned-up, retired English teacher George Emerson, it's not exactly love at first sight. Though she does find the obsessive-compulsive man intriguing. Making it her mission to get him to loosen up and embrace life, she embarks on what seems like a lost cause--and finds herself falling for him in the process. A confirmed bachelor, George vacillates between irritation and attraction whenever Willow is around--which to him seems like all too often. He's not interested in expanding his horizons or making new friends; it just hurts too much when you lose them. But as the summer progresses, George feels his defenses crumbling. The quest...

Top Ten Tuesday: Ten Characters I'd name a child/cat/dog/car/ etc After.

Happy Tuesday guys! I enjoyed Top Ten Tuesday so much last week, that I decided to go ahead and take part again this week. Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and The Bookish, and here's the link to the main page if you're interested in becoming a part of it: http://www.brokeandbookish.com/p/top-ten-tuesday-other-features.html Today's topic is: Ten Characters I'd Name A Child/Cat/Dog/Car/ etc After, and I think it's going to be a really fun one. First, Characters I'd Name a Pet after: 1) Katsa from Kristin Cashore's Graceling: I have to start with Katsa, since it is actually what we named our adorable black and white kitten almost a year ago. She's grown so much since this picture, but this was taken right after we decided on her name. We tried several different book characters, but Katsa is the one she loved right away, and so is what we ended up going with. 2) Rose from Richelle Mead's Vampire Academ...
