Are you someone who enjoys scary stories? I kind of go back and forth on this depending on my reading mood.
Somedays I really enjoy them. Somedays I'm not really in the mood for picking one up.
For the last few months, I'd had a very interesting sounding Christian thriller on my tbr, and I finally decided to pick it up and give it a go.

My Review:
I wasn't sure what to expect from this one, as Rachelle Dekker was a new to me author, but the synopsis sounded intriguing, and I decided to give it a go.
I appreciated the fact that the plot pulled me into the story right from the get go, and I ended up breezing through this one pretty quickly. It was suspenseful, action packed, and well paced, but unfortunately it didn't end up being quite what I was hoping for.
I was expecting more of a mystery suspense thriller, and this one instead ended up being more sci fi action than anything else. I personally found the action segments to not really hold my interest as much as the rest of the story did, and I found the lead up to everything to be a tad on the disappointing side.
I didn't personally read The Girl Behind the Red Rope before picking this one up as I had no clue they were connected. I'm not sure if reading that one beforehand would have cleared up some of Zoe's story for me, but as it was, I ended up feeling like a lot of the questions raised throughout the story concerning her were never really answered. And it felt like the ending was rushed, and didn't really wrap up the story properly.
Perhaps though what I found most disappointing with this one was the lack of a faith element. The content was extremely dark, and I kept hoping for a mention of the light of Jesus to combat all the darkness in this world. That unfortunately never happened, and it just felt like a great opportunity was missed.
All in all, this was a pretty well written novel that held my interest, and kept me engaged, but it wasn't what I was expecting, and I'm not sure this author would be high on my list of authors to try again in the future. I just wanted a bit more than what was given, and while the redemptive arc was definitely interesting, it would have been more so if the redemption had happened through our Lord and Savior.
