 Happy Friday Sweet Friends :)

I pray today finds you all doing well, and I'm so thankful you've chosen to drop on by The Preppy Book Princess today for another book review.

I'm Kirby. I love reading and sharing about it with you all here on my little corner of the internet, and I especially love getting to share about upcoming releases from my all time favorite authors.

Today I get the extreme pleasure of reviewing the upcoming Pepper Basham release for you all, and this book was definitely one of my most anticipated releases for this year.

I can't wait to tell you guys all about it, so keep reading down below and let's dive right into today's review.

Some Like it Scot by Pepper Basham:

Source: Publisher via NetGalley

Publisher: Thomas Nelson

Publication Date: April 8th, 2025

Genre: Christian Fiction/Contemporary

Synopsis:

An American travel writer who has never found a place to belong and a reclusive Scot with a surprising secret find a shocking connection when she enters a Highlands manor house that has been turned into a three-week long Edwardian experience.

Katie Campbell has traveled her entire life. As the daughter of an army chaplain, changing homes--or even countries--was commonplace, so when her wild childhood storytelling turned into a lucrative career as a travel writer, she thought she'd found her perfect match. But as she's nearly thirty with no real place to settle down, she's starting to wonder where "home" actually is. Her own family hadn't felt like home since her sister's death left them all limping through life.

When a lengthy project in Scotland promises to not only give her travel fodder for months but also a shot at a coveted editing position, she accepts and is sent to spend three weeks in the newly created Craighill House, a Scottish home redesigned to offer guests an Edwardian experience. But her entrance to Craighill introduces her to a quirky group of characters and a surly Scot who is helping refurbish the magnificent woodwork of the estate house.

As Katie attempts to live "Edwardian," she learns that all that glitters does not a comfortable lifestyle make . . . and surly Scots may turn out to be dashing and creative uncles raising their orphaned nephews. When a few escapades from the Downton era lead Katie on hunts for mermaids and dragons or to a fireside chat with a family who has grown stronger through tragedy, Katie begins to wonder if "home" looks a whole lot like rolling green hills, magnificent braighs, and a few extra "ayes" thrown in for good measure. But can her world-traveling lifestyle fit in with a Scot whose heart is double-knotted to home?

My Review:

Pepper Basham has a masterful talent for penning stories that drags the reader right into the plot, and Some Like it Scot was no exception. A wonderful story that illustrates the truth of no matter what those on earth have come to make us feel like, our Heavenly Father always claims us as His own, this was a read I had a hard time wanting to put down, and I adored every moment of it.

I've come to expect wonderful things whenever I pick up a book by this author, and she never disappoints. In this lovely tale set in Scotland, readers follow travel writer Katie Campbell who has made a name for herself from the "misadventures" she's constantly encountering no matter where she goes. When the opporunity arises for her to take part in an "Edwardian lifestyle" experience in her grandfather's home country, she jumps at the chance. However, she never expected this beautiful place to breakthrough the chains she placed on her heart years ago, or the dashing Scotsman (Graeme) she encounters early on to have such a huge part in doing so. As Katie struggles to make sense of what all these new feelings mean for her future, readers get to follow along her adorable quest for happily ever after.

This was overall a lovely tale full of adventures (or misadventures?), swoon worthy romantic moments, and the comedic hilarity bits I've come to expect from every book I pick up by this author. While I wouldn't say it's my favorite she's ever written, it was a lovely romance with an idyllic setting and a beautiful faith element that was authentically woven into the rest of the plot.

Final Rating: 4/5.

I'd definitely recommend this one to anyone who enjoys Christian and/or clean romances.

Thanks so much to Thomas Nelson for the opportunity to read and review this one!

I voluntarily read and reviewed a complimentary advance reader copy of this novel from the publisher (Thomas Nelson) via NetGalley. I was not required to give a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own, and this is my honest review.

Thanks so much for reading guys! Have a wonderful rest of your weekend :)

Happy Friday Everyone :) Since it is Friday, I'll once again be participating in First Line Friday which is hosted by Hoarding Books .  For this week, I'm going to be sharing the first line from Melody Carlson's newest book, Courting Mr. Emerson. About The Book: When the fun-loving and spontaneous artist Willow West meets buttoned-up, retired English teacher George Emerson, it's not exactly love at first sight. Though she does find the obsessive-compulsive man intriguing. A confirmed bachelor, George vacillates between irritation and attraction whenever Willow is around--which to him seems like all too often. He's not interested in expanding his horizons or making new friends; it just hurts too much when you lose them. But as the summer progresses, George feels his defenses crumbling. The quest...
