Wild Montana Skies by Susan May Warren Review

Guys, I can't believe it's only October, and we're already dealing with our first snowfall of the year!!!

The last couple of days have been absolutely crazy, as our wonky weather system first brought in huge amounts of rain that almost flooded large areas of our city, then high winds that caused a big tree in our yard to collapse near our house (and we're really thankful that no one was injured in the process!), and finally, the first snowfall of the year, that's almost turned into blizzard conditions.

Combine that with the fact that my whole family's been doing dealing with some massive stress and drama right now, and ugh, it's no wonder that all I've felt like doing lately is curling up in my favorite reading spot with some awesome books.

When I'm having a really depressive kind of week, I often find inspirational fiction is one of my favorite things to turn to, and I was excited to have had an arc via Netgalley by Susan May Warren to help take my mind off this crazy week!

That's probably enough of me complaining for now, and so here's my review :)

I received an advanced reader's copy of this novel from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own, and are not in any way influenced by this.

Now all that's on hold when his injured father calls him home to help run Peak Rescue until he's fully recovered. It doesn't take long, though, discover his father's ulterior motives as Kacey Fairing walks into the house, and back into his heart.

With Mercy Falls in a state of emergency due to flash floods, Kacey and Ben are forced to work together to save lives. But when floodwaters turn personal, can they put aside the past save their future?

Review:

Wild Montana Skies was my first experience with a Susan May Warren book, and honestly, my first impression of this book was confusion. I didn't realize before I started reading it that there was a prequel novella that was necessary to read before starting this one, and so the first few chapters of this book had me highly confused as to what was going on. Once I figured this out, and read the novella, I definitely had a better overall impression of the story.

Kacey and Ben were high school sweethearts that were torn apart thanks to extenuating circumstances, and family meddling. Neither has heard from the other in years, and both have gone on to focus on their careers, despite the emptiness this has left them feeling.

Thrown together thirteen years later, both are forced to address their feelings that have had many years to simmer below the surface, and they might just realize with the help of loved ones, and learning to rely on God's will, that maybe just maybe, their story isn't quite finished.

I really liked the chemistry that existed between Ben and Kacey, and the way they're both willing to put aside their own feelings now for what's best for someone else introduced in the book. I also really liked reading more of Ian and Sierra's story, and how Ian will stop at nothing to get the answers he feels his niece deserves. Furthermore, I thought this was another novel that wrote about Christianity from an imperfect angle, and those are fast becoming some of my favorite inspirational novels.

I gave this particular novel four out of five stars, and I wouldn't hesitate to pick up more from Susan May Warren. I will be anxiously awaiting the release of the next novel in this series, but there were definitely a few points that kept it from being a five star book for me, and I definitely also want to address those.

First, I really felt the ending left a lot of things unresolved for me. I hope she's planning to continue on with these stories in the next novel, as I don't like finishing a novel and having a ton of questions as to what happened between various characters.

Secondly, while I was a big fan of Kacey and Ben's story, I can't say the same for what happened with Sierra and Ian's. Their story was what the novella focused on, and they were still a big focus of this novel, and yet, I still feel like their story is nowhere near being wrapped up yet. I really hope this will change with the next novel.

And lastly, I have a tiny suspicion that there's going to be a love triangle as the focus of the next book that's mentioned a few times in this one, and I hope I'm going to be proven wrong, as that is definitely not where I want to see this series go.

Other than those few issues, I honestly loved this book, and I definitely recommend it to anyone looking for inspirational suspense type novels. Thanks again to the publisher for the opportunity to read this!

Thanks for reading guys! I will see you back here soon for another bookish post.

A confirmed bachelor, George vacillates between irritation and attraction whenever Willow is around--which to him seems like all too often. He's not interested in expanding his horizons or making new friends; it just hurts too much when you lose them. But as the summer progresses, George feels his defenses crumbling. The quest...

First Line Friday: The Inheritance

Happy Friday Everyone :) I hope you're all had a great week and that you're staying safe no matter where you are. I haven't been leaving my house much lately other than for work, and because of this, I've had lots of reading time on my hands. Last year my hubby and I took a road trip that included a visit to our favorite bookstore, and we decided to each pick a book that wouldn't be our first choice. The purpose was to try and read something that still interested us, but would maybe be a bit different than what we would typically go for first. My pick ended up being The Inheritance by Michael Phillips, a book I actually ended up being quite excited about, despite never having heard of it prior. Unfortunately, it ended up sitting on my bookshelf ever since, and I'm so thankful I finally got the opportunity to pick it up and start reading it this past week. The Inheritance by Michael Phillips: About the Book: The death of the clan patriarch h...
