Sick Day Books and Movies

It's Remebrance Day guys, and before I jump into my post, I want to say a huge THANK YOU to all the brave men and women who have served over the years, and have given us the freedom we now have. Words could never be enough to describe the gratitude for all you have done!

Unfortunately, I've been fighting off a flu bug that last few days, and I haven't actually had too much energy for blogging.

I've had to miss a few days of work, and haven't really had the energy to get out of bed too much, and as such, I've watched a LOT of movies, and have read a lot of books.

I thought today it might be a fun post idea to share with you guys what all I've read and watched, and what my thoughts and opinions were on each.

First, let's talk about the movies:

As I've mentioned before, I'm a huge fan of made for TV movies, especially Hallmark ones. I'm so beyond disappointed that Canada doesn't get the Hallmark channel, and I honestly think that that channel would be the only thing that would actually entice me to get cable.

Luckily, I managed to find quite a few made for TV movies on Nexflix and youtube that I hadn't seen yet, and it definitely helped get me through these boring days at home. :)

1) In Lawfully Yours starring Chelsey Crisp and Joe Williamson:

I expected to love this one, as the premise about a recently divorced New Yorker falling for a small town Pastor who just happens to be her ex-brother in law really appealed to me, but I ended up feeling like it felt that something was missing from the plot, and it ended up being one of my least favorites of the ones I watched.

2) A Wish For Christmas starring Lacey Chabert and Paul Greene:

This one was one I actually expected not to like, as I haven't been a huge fan of Lacey Chabert's previous Christmas films, but I ended up really enjoying this sweet, romantic story about a women who makes a wish to Santa to finally have courage to stand up for herself, but ends up taking it a bit too far, and almost costs herself her new love, and her career in the process. I highly recommend this family friendly film. :)

3) The Mistletoe Promise starring Jaime King and Luke Macfarlane, based on the book by Richard Paul Evans:

This one left me with extremely mixed feelings, I think if I hadn't read the book last year, I would have found myself enjoying this sweet story about two people who make a "promise" to help each other out with company gatherings and such during the holidays. However, since I have read the book, I really didn't like the way they downplayed so many of the serious issues, and because of that, it definitely hankered my enjoyed a little.

4) October Kiss starring Ashley Williams and Sam Jaeger:

This is by far the best fall themed Hallmark movie I've ever watched. Such an adorable story about a woman who takes a job for a struggling workaholic single dad, and ends up changing their lives in ways no one could have ever predicted. I literally can't wait to watch this one again next.

5) Autumn Dreams starring Jill Wagner and Daniel Bacon:

A second chance at love story that focuses on a young couple who eloped barely out of high school who find out fifteen years later that their marriage was never annulled, and maybe just maybe, that will work out in their favor. I loved the acting and the chemistry in this one, and it was definitely the perfect choice for a sick day.

6) Harvest Moon starring Jessy Schram and Jesse Hutch:

I expected to honestly love this one, especially considering I'm a fan of both of the main actors, but something felt like it was missing in the chemistry and the plot, and so I'd personally recommend October Kiss or Autumn Dreams over this one.

7) Married By Christmas starring April Bowlby and Jes Macallan:

This I can honestly say was my least favorite of all the ones I watched. It didn't feel Christmassy at all to me, and didn't give me the holiday spirit feelings that most made for TV Christmas movies do. I don't personally recommend this one.

8) Accidentally Engaged starring Lexi Giovagnoli and Brant Daugherty:

This one I loved. It was right up my alley considering it's a story about a movie star needing a waitress from a local cafe to pose as his girlfriend to keep the tabloids out of his real relationship, and of course, they both realize their relationship may not be as pretend as they both originally thought!

9) Love Always, Santa starring Sara Marsh and Mike Faiola:

I saved the best for last guys, as this one was absolutely perfect in every way imaginable. An adorable 9 year old girl writes a letter to Santa asking for help for her mom, who's been sad and depressed ever since her dad passed away a few years earlier. Everyone's in for a huge surprise though when the little girl gets a heartfelt letter back from Santa, actually written by a bestselling children's author who's been taking the time to answer as many Santa letters as he has the time to do. I can't possibly recommend this movie enough!

Now let's move on to the many books I've devoured while being sick:

1) The Bane Chronicles by Cassandra Clare, Maureen Johnson, and Sara Rees Brennan:

I've been anxiously awaiting reading this one as Magnus was always one of my favorite characters, and I really wanted to hear more about his background and crazy adventures before becoming a part of the Shadowhunter world. However, this book left me highly disappointed because it didn't show me most of the stuff I was most interested in, and I was expecting mass chaos, and tons of his signature quirky personality, and I just felt it wasn't there. Still a decent read, and I'm glad I read it before I'll move on to Tales From Shadowhunter Academy, but it's definitely me least favorite Shadowhunter novel to date.

2) The Twelve Days of Christmas by Debbie Macomber:

With all the hate that's been spreading all over social media lately, due largely in part to the American election, I was really needing a book that would lift my spirits, and this new Christmas novel by Debbie Macomber was just what the doctor ordered. It's definitely a new favorite, and I can't recommend it enough.

3) Jane Austen's First Love by Syrie James:

I'm currently about half done this sweet romantic book, and I can honestly tell you that I will definitely be looking up more from this author in the future as I'm in love with her writing style. :)

4) Arrow by RJ Anderson:

Wow guys! I'm not sure I even half the words to describe this amazing novel, but this was a stunning conclusion to Anderson's faery novels that I've come to love so much over the last couple of years.

5) Loving Lauren by Jill Sanders:

An awesome start to the West series with highly likable characters, great chemistry, and my new favorite love, a ranch setting. I'll definitely be looking forward to reading more of this series in the future.

6) Halfway Dead by Terry Maggert:

I'm not too far into this one yet, so it's too soon to say if I'm loving it or not, but so far I'm really liking Terry's world building, and the main character, so I have high hopes that i'll really end up enjoying it. :)

And that's it for the books and movies I've been enjoying while I've been home sick guys.

Are any of you also fans of Hallmark movies? If so, I'd love to hear what your favorites are. Also, let me know what books you love reading when you're sick.

Thanks for reading, and have a great long weekend!
