5 Series I Don't Plan On Finishing

Happy Monday Guys!

I hope everyone had a great weekend, and is looking forward to a new week to make things happen. :)

This week's going to be a little crazy for me as unfortunately I came down with some nasty cold virus that's been going around work, and it's caused me to slightly lose my voice. This wouldn't be normally so problematic, but I have a meeting to lead at work tomorrow, and I'm praying my voice will be back to normal by then. As well, our kitty, Katsa, has been fighting off an upper respiratory infection, and we've been in and out of vet appointments trying to get her feeling better. We're both praying we'll see a huge improvement in her soon.

For today's post, I wanted to talk about five book series I have no intention of finishing. As a lot of you probably already know, I'm not a huge fan of DNFIngs on books, and I used to be that way with series too. However, I've gotten to the point lately that I've just decided life's too short to read a bunch of books I'm not enjoying, so while I'll usually force myself to finish the first book, I then generally won't bother finishing the series.

Here's my five picks:

The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey:

It saddens me to include this one here, as it was such an anticipated read for me. I'd heard such great things about it from friends and also from fellow bloggers, but it just fell extremely short of the expectations for me. I didn't like how many character's points of view it was told in, as I thought it was just confusing and completely unnecessary, and I didn't find myself enjoying the story or the characters that much. Add that to the fact that I was spoiled on a huge plot point of one of the later books, and honestly, this series just doesn't hold a lot of interest for me anymore. This is definitely one that I will not be continuing on with.

The Princess Diaries by Meg Cabot:

I've actually read quite a few of the novels in this series, and one day I finally asked myself why? I hadn't enjoyed any of them, I didn't care for the writing style, and I honestly find Mia's character to be extremely annoying. I think I l liked the idea of this series so much that I just kept hoping to like the execution. However, I really have no desire to read any more of these, and unfortunately, this particular book is the one exception to me usually always preferring the book to the movie.

The Soulfinders series by Maria V. Snyder:

Poison Study was a novel that left me with conflicted feelings. I absolutely loved the world that Maria V Snyder had created within it's pages, but I wasn't a huge fan of Yelena's character, or the writing style. I did continue on with the rest of that series, and really wasn't enjoying it at all. However, I'd read so many reviews that said the spin off series redeemed the first series, and so I decided to give it a go. Honestly, I ended up liking the first two books in this series even less than I liked the first series, and I started to feel like I was reading it more out of obligation than anything else. And since I have so many books in my TBR pile that I've been dying to get to, I've just decided to walk away from the rest of these books, and I think that's definitely the right choice for me.

The Noctis Magicae series by Sylvia Izzo Hunter:

I really enjoyed the first book in this series, and I loved the strong characters, and the growth they go through throughout the course of the story. However, I felt this novel was a complete 180 from the first, and it ended up taking me forever to finish. All of the spunk and strength I'd loved so much in the characters in the first novel was completely gone in this one, and they all felt more monotone and whiny to me than anything else. As well, I thought the mystery element was hugely underwhelming, and the story line dragged on and on. While there's a definite possibility that the third book might be a lot better, I really just don't care enough to find out, and don't really feel any connection to continuing on with this series.

And lastly,

The Wicked Lovely series by Melissa Marr:

This was a series I wanted to love, since Melissa Marr seems to be such an amazing person. However, after finishing the first two books in this series, I found them confusing, and a lot darker than I was anticipating. I've read spoilers accidentally that state that these books keep getting darker and darker as they go on, and this series just honestly kind of lost its appeal for me.

And that's it for the 5 series I don't plan on finishing. Are there any series you guys have decided to give up on? I'd love to hear which ones if you feel like sharing!

Thanks so much for reading, and I hope to see you all again soon. :)
