Happy Friday Everyone :)
I hope you're all doing well, and I want to thank you all for joining me for another book review here on The Preppy Book Princess.
Now that we're well into December, are you busy with preparations for the Christmas season? I'm personally enjoying all the festive things I've got to do so far this year, and I'm almost finished my Christmas shopping, I've sent out Christmas cards, I've started wrapping, and I'm hoping to get started on baking this weekend or shortly thereafter.
This weekend is going to be particularly festive as my friend and I are having are annual Friendmas tomorrow, and then I'll also be doing more gift wrapping, baking and reading more holiday themed reads.
Do any of you have any fun Christmas plans for this weekend?
I'm also taking part in the winter magical readathon, and I'm having so much fun with it.
If you're interested in knowing more about it, you can check out the official home page.
Now that you're all caught up on what's been going on with me, I'm going to go ahead and dive into the book review I had planned to share with you all today.
A Glitter of Gold by Liz Johnson:
Source: Library
Publisher: Revell
Publication Date: August 6th, 2019
Genre: Christian Fiction/Contemporary Romance
Series: Georgia Coast Romance
Synopsis:
Anne Norris moved to Savannah, Georgia, for a fresh start. Now her pirate-tour business is flagging, and paying the rent requires more than wishful thinking. When she discovers evidence of a shipwreck off the coast of Tybee Island, she knows it could be just the boon she needs to stay afloat. She takes her findings to local museum director Carter Hale for confirmation, but she runs after a disastrous first meeting.
Carter has been searching for the location of the wreck detailed in the worn pages of an 18th-century diary, the discovery of which could open the door to his dream job at a prestigious museum. But convincing Anne to help him fill in the missing pieces of the puzzle is no easy task. And working with Carter means that Anne will have to do the one thing she swore she'd never do again: trust a man.
Finding a monetary backer and sticking with a search that's turning up nothing will take all their dedication--and every secret they've tried to hide. If they can find the lost ship, they may discover a treasure worth more than all the pirate gold in the world--love.

My Review:
I wasn't really sure what to expect when I picked up this title. Liz Johnson's Prince Edward Island Dreams series is one of my all time favorites, but I hadn't ended up feeling quite the same about the first release in her Georgia Coast Romance series. However, I'm so glad I decided to go ahead and read this one anyways, as it ended up being everything I was hoping for and more. A main female character who's struggling with forgiving herself for her misplaced part in a tragic accident, a main male character who's determined to make his own way without taking advantage of his family's prominent name, and a connection in history to a ship long lost at sea thanks to the hands of dastardly pirates. This story was a true gem from start to finish, and showcased once again just how talented of an author Liz Johnson truly is.
I'm personally a big fan of epistolary style, so I love when books include an element of this within it. Our main characters, Anne and Carter, first meet when Anne discovers a sword hilt on the beach after a hurricane, and she proceeds to the local maritime museum to discover what it is exactly that she has. Carter is beyond thrilled with Anne's discovery; not only is it an amazing find on its own, but it also proves that the historical diary that's been in his family for centuries is based on fact and not fiction. After all, the sword hilt that Annie has found is the exact same one described in vivid detail in the diary.
Carter can sense that Anne may be just the person he's looking for, the person who can truly appreciate the history behind the diary the way that he can. Soon Anne and Carter find themselves falling head over heels for the story within the diary's pages, and both are determined to do what it takes to get the answers they so desperately seek.
While I loved Anne and Carter's story, what truly made this one stand out for me is the story held within the pages of the diary. I was on the edge of my seat trying to find out what was going to happen next, and I loved how everything ties together in a way I never saw coming. Liz Johnson is fantastic at writing about grief and forgiveness, and how neither are possible away from His never ending grace. I appreciated the fact that the faith element is blended into the story beautifully. It's never skipped over, and yet, it also never comes across as preachy or unauthentic.
I'm happy to say that A Glitter of Gold was an amazing read, and I'm so happy I took a chance and picked it up, even when I hadn't truly enjoyed the first book that much.
If you're a fan of contemporary romance, pirate lore, epistolary style, and romance stories that highlight the importance of faith in our Heavenly Father, then this is one you're definitely going to want to go ahead and pick up.
Final Rating: 4/5
Thanks so much for reading guys! Have a great rest of your weekend :)
