Happy Wednesday Everyone :)
It's officially one week until Christmas, and that is so crazy!
I'm so excited for the season. I can't wait to spend time with my family and friends celebrating the true reason for the season, and I can't wait to see my niece and nephews basking in all the excitement surrounding the day.
Today however, I'd like to share another book review with you guys. I'm still taking part in Magical Readathon, and my last reading prompt was to read a book that had either orange on the cover or the word orange in the title. I ended up picking up a title that had been sitting around on my bookshelves for a very long time, and today I'd like to share with all of you what I thought about it.
Now and Forever by Susane Colasanti:
Source: Gift From My Hubby
Publisher: Viking Books For Young Readers
Publication Date: May 20th, 2014
Genre: Young Adult Fiction/Contemporary
Synopsis:
What if your boyfriend was the world's biggest rockstar?
Sterling is crazy in love with Ethan. Not only is he the sweetest boy she's ever met, but he's an incredibly talented guitarist, singer, and songwriter. And since forever, he's believed he has what it takes to be a star.
When Ethan becomes an overnight sensation, he's thrown head-first into the glam world of celebrity-and so is Sterling. Before she knows it, she's attending red-carpet premieres, getting free designer clothes, and flying around the country to attend Ethan's monumental sold-out concerts.
It's a dream come true...but whose dream is Sterling living? And what do you do when "forever" comes to an end?
(synopsis from goodreads)
My Review:
For as long as I can remember, one of my favorite book tropes has been "the famous person falling for the regular person." I've read countless books over the years that feature this trope, and yet Now and Forever featured a side of it that I'd never personally read before. Instead of focusing around a famous person meeting a non-famous person and falling in love, it instead focuses on a couple who's already been together for a while before the male character becomes a huge success as a new to the scene musician.
I was interested in seeing how the story was going to play out, and at the start, I really enjoyed both Sterling and Ethan as characters. I didn't love the fact that basically their entire life is consumed by their relationship, and I also didn't appreciate that this is another YA title that basically features absentee parents, but I was still enjoying the story for the most part overall.
However, this ended up not really being the read I was expecting it to be, and while it had certain elements that I really did like reading about, I wasn't a huge fan of the direction the story goes in the last quarter or so of the book. I was expecting there to be more to the story than what there was, and I thought the climax and its resolution were honestly kind of cliche. I was expecting more from this title than that, and it left me feeling a little bit disappointed.
Overall, it was still an enjoyable read, but it's definitely not my favorite Susane Colasanti title, and wasn't truly anything that memorable.
Final Rating: 3/5
Thanks so much for reading guys! Have a great rest of your day :)
