Happy Friday Everyone :)
I pray this week finds you all safe and healthy.
As I've been spending so much more time at home than normal, I've also been finishing a lot more books.
One of my favorites I finished this week was The Happy Camper by Melody Carlson, and so I decided to feature it for today's First Line Friday post.
If you're unfamiliar with First Line Friday, it's a weekly meme hosted by Hoarding Books where you simply share the first line of the book you're currently enjoying.
The Happy Camper by Melody Carlson:
About The Book:
Home is the place to heal, right? At least, that's what Dillon Michaels is hoping as she leaves her disappointing career and nonstarter love life behind to help her grieving and aging grandfather on his small Oregon farm. The only problem? Her eccentric mother beat her there and has taken over Dillon's old room. After a few nights sleeping on a sagging sofa, Dillon is ready to give up, until she receives an unlikely gift--her grandfather's run-down vintage camp trailer, which she quickly resolves to restore with the help of Jordan Atwood, the handsome owner of the local hardware store.
But just when things are finally beginning to run smoothly, Dillon's noncommittal ex-boyfriend shows up with roses . . . and a ring.
My Thoughts:
I've read and enjoyed many of Melody Carlson's books in the past, so I was looking forward to reading this one. However, I wasn't prepared for just how much I was going to end up liking it. The Happy Camper is a beautiful story about a woman who ends up returning home after losing both her job and her boyfriend. Along the way she discovers the importance of family, and what truly matters in life isn't the material things. I loved this story, and can't possibly recommend it enough. The relationship between Dillon and her grandfather is heartwarming and beautiful, and I never wanted to see the story come to an end.
First Line:
"Dillon Michaels was fed up-but it wasn't with dinner."
What book are you currently reading? Be sure and leave the first line in the comments, and then hop on over to Hoarding Books to see who else is participating this week.
Have a great rest of your weekend guys, and Happy Reading! :)

ReplyDeleteChief of Police Everett Sawyer stood over the body they’d just dug up in the old rail yard north of the city.

I’m currently reading Mission Hollywood by Michelle Keener. I’m on chapter 29 so I’ll share that first line. “Lily spent New Year’s Day at home, while her dad and Noah went to the church to start work on preparations for the block party.” I hope you have a great weekend of reading!
ReplyDeleteHappy Saturday!

ReplyDeleteToday on my blog I shared the first line from Before I Called You Mine by Nicole Deese but I just started reading The Joy of Falling by Lindsay Harrel so I'll share the first line from chapter 3 here: "Few places reminded her more of Brent than the Saturday-morning farmers market." Hope you have a great weekend with some quality reading time :)
