Not by Sight by Kate Breslin Review

 Hello Friends :)

I hope you're all doing well, and I want to thank you all for joining me for another book review here on The Preppy Book Princess.

Life seems to have been a lot of the same lately, and honestly, a lot of the times the days seem to run right into each other. It's sometimes hard trying to stay positive during all the darkness and hatred that's becoming more and more rampant each day in our world.

However, more than ever, I'm thankful for the amazing grace of our Heavenly Father, and how being in His Word is always uplifting. I'm also thankful that even though the COVID restrictions have made things a lot more difficult, they've also provided me with a lot more time for reading. As such, I've been able to try out authors that I've been wanting to for quite some time, and today I'd like to share a review with you all from a new to me author.

Not by Sight by Kate Breslin:

Source: Libby App

Publisher: Bethany House

Publication Date: August 4th, 2015

Genre: Christian Fiction/Historical Fiction

Synopsis:

Gripping Sophomore Novel from a Rising Historical Romance Talent

With Britain caught up in WWI, Jack Benningham, heir to the Earl of Stonebrooke, has declared himself a conscientious objector. Instead, he secretly works for the Crown by tracking down German spies on British soil, his wild reputation and society status serving as a foolproof cover.

Blinded by patriotism and concern for her brother on the front lines, wealthy suffragette Grace Mabry will do whatever it takes to assist her country's cause. When she sneaks into a posh London masquerade ball to hand out white feathers of cowardice, she never imagines the chain of events she'll set off when she hands a feather to Jack.

And neither of them could anticipate the extent of the danger and betrayal that follows them--or the faith they'll need to maintain hope.

My Review:

When I chose to pick this one up, I basically knew three things. 1) I absolutely adored the beautiful cover and had a feeling it was hiding a glorious story beyond it. 2) The setting was World War One, and this is a time period I've been wanting to read more about. And 3) I definitely got some Beauty and the Beast vibes from reading the synopsis. So I went into this one excited to tackle a new to me author and looking forward to what I hoped would be a lovely story. However, I was ill prepared for just how much I was going to enjoy this one, and I truly think it's one of the most uplifting stories I've read in a very long time.

I loved the way that Grace and Jack both have to overcome the odds stacked against them, and how both of them (Grace especially) refuse to lose hope. I appreciated how both characters are multi dimensional, and the reader gets to see multiple layers revealed as the story moves on. A great portion of the story consists of Grace working to do her part to help the war effort, and the friendship she develops with her co-workers ended up being one of my favorite parts of the story.

Not by Sight was my first experience with a Kate Breslin novel, and I'm so thankful I took the time to read it. The plot kept me engaged and slightly shocked at the turn of events revealed later on, and I loved her witty and immersive writing style. I came away from this one feeling teary eyed and warm hearted, and also, feeling like I gained some new insight into events surrounding the first World War that I wasn't familiar with prior to this.

I adored this one from start to finish, and truly felt it's a literary masterpiece that I can see myself reading and rereading over and over in the years to come. I can't wait to try more books from this author, and I will highly be recommending it to anyone who enjoys Christian historical fiction.

Final Rating: 5/5.

Thanks so much for reading guys! Have a great rest of your day :)

First Line Friday: Courting Mr. Emerson

Happy Friday Everyone :) Since it is Friday, I'll once again be participating in First Line Friday which is hosted by Hoarding Books .  For this week, I'm going to be sharing the first line from Melody Carlson's newest book, Courting Mr. Emerson. About The Book: When the fun-loving and spontaneous artist Willow West meets buttoned-up, retired English teacher George Emerson, it's not exactly love at first sight. Though she does find the obsessive-compulsive man intriguing. Making it her mission to get him to loosen up and embrace life, she embarks on what seems like a lost cause--and finds herself falling for him in the process. A confirmed bachelor, George vacillates between irritation and attraction whenever Willow is around--which to him seems like all too often. He's not interested in expanding his horizons or making new friends; it just hurts too much when you lose them. But as the summer progresses, George feels his defenses crumbling. The quest...

First Line Friday: The Inheritance

Happy Friday Everyone :) I hope you're all had a great week and that you're staying safe no matter where you are. I haven't been leaving my house much lately other than for work, and because of this, I've had lots of reading time on my hands. Last year my hubby and I took a road trip that included a visit to our favorite bookstore, and we decided to each pick a book that wouldn't be our first choice. The purpose was to try and read something that still interested us, but would maybe be a bit different than what we would typically go for first. My pick ended up being The Inheritance by Michael Phillips, a book I actually ended up being quite excited about, despite never having heard of it prior. Unfortunately, it ended up sitting on my bookshelf ever since, and I'm so thankful I finally got the opportunity to pick it up and start reading it this past week. The Inheritance by Michael Phillips: About the Book: The death of the clan patriarch h...

I'm excited to be taking part in another edition of First Line Friday hosted by Hoarding Books , but I'm also excited to be featuring one of my favorite author's new releases for this week's edition. First Line Friday simply consists of sharing the first line from the book you're currently reading, and today I'm going to be sharing from Mandi Blake's new book, which released last week. Remembering the Cowboy by Mandi Blake: About the Book: They have unfinished business. She just can’t remember what it is. Noah Harding lives a simple life as a firefighter and rancher until Camille cras...
