The Haven by Suzanne Woods Fisher Review

 Hello Friends :)

I pray today finds you all doing well, and I want to thank you all for joining me for another book review here on The Preppy Book Princess.

One thing that has really started to bother me lately is the importance our society puts on money. Everything is about how much you can make, buying things that are more expensive than one could ever need, constantly striving for a better job so you have can have that extravagant lifestyle, etc. etc. And the most frustrating thing of all is that so many Christians are starting to have this attitude as well.

Money has become such an idol in our world today, and it makes me so sad.

This may seem like a strange intro to a book review, but I promise it fits in.

One of the reasons I love reading Amish fiction as much as I do is that I love how their culture doesn't put importance on money, status or material things. It's such a refreshing breath of air from current society, and I love immersing myself in books set in their culture.

Today's review is the second title in a series from one of my all time favorite authors, and I can't wait to share all about it with you guys.

If you want to check out my review of the first book in the series, you can do so using the link below.

The Haven by Suzanne Woods Fisher:

Source: Christmas Gift from my Hubby

Publisher: Revell

Publication Date: August 1st, 2012

Genre: Christian Fiction/Amish Fiction

Series: Stoney Ridge Seasons

Synopsis:

When Sadie Lapp steps off the bus in Stoney Ridge after being in Ohio for the winter, she is faced with a decision--one that goes against her very essence. Yet it's the only way she can think of to protect a loved one.

Schoolteacher Gideon Smucker has been crazy about Sadie since boyhood. But his response to her surprising decision undermines his own reputation--and his relationship with Sadie.

College student Will Stoltz is spending the spring at the Lapp farm as a guard for a pair of nesting Peregrine Falcons--courtesy of the Lancaster County Game Warden. Will needs to get his life back on track, but his growing friendship with Sadie threatens his plans.

The lives of these three individuals intertwine, and then unravel as unexpected twists create ripples through the town of Stoney Ridge . . . and through Sadie's heart.

Once again, bestselling author Suzanne Woods Fisher intrigues and delights with a story that explores the bonds of friendship, family, and true love. Readers will enjoy every surprise in Sadie's story as they search for the truth hidden within these pages.

My Review:

The Haven is the second title in Suzanne Wood Fisher's Stoney Ridge Seasons, and I honestly enjoyed it just as much as I did the first. In this one, we get the middle sister Sadie's story, and I loved how much her character has grown from the shy, bumbling, sweet girl she was in the last book. She shows so much maturity through the many hard situations she finds herself thrown into, and it was a pleasure getting to follow her along on her journey.

One of my favorite things about this series is that romance is not necessarily the main component. While it definitely does play a part, so much more of the story is focused around the entire Lapp family learning to cope with the tragic circumstances they've had to face, and growing closer together in the process. Fern's influence on the family has been profound, and I really enjoyed getting to see her become more a part of the family as the story progressed.

Of course this title is extremely bittersweet, as the family must learn how to go on after losing someone very precious to them all, but they'll soon learn that God has so much still in store for their entire family.

I wholeheartedly enjoyed this one from start to finish, and although it's definitely a quick read, it's well paced, well plotted, and well written, and I loved another visit with the Lapp family. My only complain would be that I didn't personally connect with Will's character, or enjoy his POV that much.

Still a beautiful read however, and I'm looking forward to reading M.K's story in the very near future.

Final Rating: 4/5.

Thanks so much for reading guys! Have a great rest of your day :)

First Line Friday: Courting Mr. Emerson

Happy Friday Everyone :) Since it is Friday, I'll once again be participating in First Line Friday which is hosted by Hoarding Books .  For this week, I'm going to be sharing the first line from Melody Carlson's newest book, Courting Mr. Emerson. About The Book: When the fun-loving and spontaneous artist Willow West meets buttoned-up, retired English teacher George Emerson, it's not exactly love at first sight. Though she does find the obsessive-compulsive man intriguing. Making it her mission to get him to loosen up and embrace life, she embarks on what seems like a lost cause--and finds herself falling for him in the process. A confirmed bachelor, George vacillates between irritation and attraction whenever Willow is around--which to him seems like all too often. He's not interested in expanding his horizons or making new friends; it just hurts too much when you lose them. But as the summer progresses, George feels his defenses crumbling. The quest...

First Line Friday: The Inheritance

Happy Friday Everyone :) I hope you're all had a great week and that you're staying safe no matter where you are. I haven't been leaving my house much lately other than for work, and because of this, I've had lots of reading time on my hands. Last year my hubby and I took a road trip that included a visit to our favorite bookstore, and we decided to each pick a book that wouldn't be our first choice. The purpose was to try and read something that still interested us, but would maybe be a bit different than what we would typically go for first. My pick ended up being The Inheritance by Michael Phillips, a book I actually ended up being quite excited about, despite never having heard of it prior. Unfortunately, it ended up sitting on my bookshelf ever since, and I'm so thankful I finally got the opportunity to pick it up and start reading it this past week. The Inheritance by Michael Phillips: About the Book: The death of the clan patriarch h...
