In Honor's Defense by Karen Witemeyer:
Source: Library
Publisher: Bethany House
Publication Date: June 7th, 2022
Genre: Christian Fiction/Historical Fiction/Western Romance
Series: Hanger's Horsemen
Synopsis:
He's faced countless perils on the battlefield, but nothing so dangerous as falling in love.
Luke Davenport has been fighting all his life—for respect, for country, and for those unable to fight for themselves. But now that his Horsemen brothers are domesticated, he's left alone to battle the wildness within. When an opportunity arises to take a job on his own, tracking down a group of rustlers, he jumps at the chance.
Damaris Baxter has mastered the art of invisibility. Plain and quiet, she hides in books and needlework, content to be overlooked. Until her brother dies suddenly, leaving her custody of her nephew. She moves to Texas to care for Nathaniel, determined to create the family for herself that she never thought she'd have and to give him the family he desperately needs.
When Nate finds himself knee-deep in trouble, Luke's attempt to protect him leaves Damaris feeling indebted to the Horseman. But suspicions grow regarding the mysterious death of Damaris's brother. And the more questions they ask, the more danger appears, threatening the family Luke may be unable to live without.

My Review:
In Honor's Defense is a wonderful and stunning conclusion to Karen Witemeyer's beloved Hanger's Horsemen trilogy, and I definitely think she saved the best for last.
It was going to take a special gal to capture the attention of the last single horsemen, Luke Davenport or "Preach" as he's known to his friends, and Damaris Baxter is definitely up for the job. When the two of them meet under less than ideal circumstances, thanks to the antics of Damaris' teenage nephew Nate who she has recently been left custody of, sparks instantly seem to be flying. However, something sinister is at play that ties into the supposed accidental death of Damaris' older brother, and the land that connects to a neighboring ranch whose owner seems determined to convince Nate and Damaris to sell. Preach has his work cut out for him as he works to get to the bottom of what's truly going on, and strives to protect the little family that's come to feel like his own.
This wonderful story truly kept me on the edge of my seat, and I wasn't prepared for just how sinister things were going to turn before we finally got our happy conclusion. Karen Witemeyer continues to grow in her gift of storytelling, and I think fans of western Christian fiction are going to love everything about this one.
The faith element was spot on, and I loved seeing how both Damaris and Preach chose to turn to scripture to find the answers they were both so desperately searching for. The addition of Nate added an extra element to the story, and my heart broke for the struggles he was currently facing, and unsure how to go about sharing his emotions.
The conclusion of this series was fantastic, and I loved getting glimpses of the other horsemen, and what the future holds for the whole gang in the days to come.
Definitely another winner by this author, and I look forward to reading what she chooses to give her readers next.
Final Rating: 4/5.
Thanks so much for reading guys! Have a great rest of your day :)
