Love, Life and the List by Kasie West Review

 Good Morning Sweet Friends :)

I pray today finds you all doing well, and I'm so thankful you've taken the time to drop on by The Preppy Book Princess today for another book review.

I used to read a lot of young adult fiction. It was my favorite genre, and I read hundreds and hundreds of titles within this genre. Now I probably only read a few in the course of an entire year, and that's mainly because the content in these books now is absolutely atrocious!

One author who, except for one or two exceptions, continues to keep her books fairly clean is Kasie West.

She's always been one of my all time favorite authors, and I still have a few of her books sitting on my shelf I have yet to get to.

It seemed like the perfect time to change that, so I decided to dive right in and give this one a chance.

Keep reading to find out if it was a success or another disappointment.

Love, Life and the List by Kasie West:

Source: Gift From My Hubby

Publisher: Harper Teen

Publication Date: December 26th, 2017

Genre: Young Adult Fiction/Contemporary

Series: Love, Life and the List

Synopsis:

Seventeen-year-old Abby Turner’s summer isn’t going the way she’d planned. She has a not-so-secret but definitely unrequited crush on her best friend, Cooper. She hasn’t been able to manage her mother’s growing issues with anxiety. And now she’s been rejected from an art show because her work “has no heart.” So when she gets another opportunity to show her paintings, Abby isn’t going to take any chances.

Which is where the list comes in.

Abby gives herself one month to do ten things, ranging from face a fear (#3) to learn a stranger’s story (#5) to fall in love (#8). She knows that if she can complete the list, she’ll become the kind of artist she’s always dreamed of being.

But as the deadline approaches, Abby realizes that getting through the list isn’t as straightforward as it seems . . . and that maybe—just maybe—she can’t change her art if she isn’t first willing to change herself.

My Review:

Love, Life and the List has been sitting on my TBR shelf ever since it first released all the way back in 2017. Kasie West has long been one of my favorites within the YA contemporary genre, and yet there was still a few of her titles I had never gotten around to reading.

I absolutely adored her earlier stories, and found myself quite disappointed when I picked up one of her more recent releases, Places We've Never Been. I'm happy to say that this particular title definitely felt more like her original novels, and while I wouldn't say it ended up being a favorite, it was sweet and heartwarming while still staying pretty squeaky clean, and diving into some deeper topics like mental illness.

What I personally found refreshing about this one was that I actually didn't hate the love triangle, and I ended up not being able to tell which direction the author was going to take with the conclusion. That made it more of a fun surprise, and I love when an author is able to keep me guessing like that.

I'm usually personally not a fan of protagonists being the "artsy" type, as it usually just doesn't work for me, but I truly adored Abby, especially the sweet relationship she has with her grandpa and her determined heart to help those around her.

All in all, not my favorite by Kasie West, but an adorable story nonetheless that I could definitely see myself rereading in the future.

Final Rating: 4/5.

Thanks so much for reading guys! Have a great rest of your day :)

My husband and I actually have this week off of work for a much needed holiday, and I'm excited for the many fun things we have planned. Aside from the fun things, I'm honestly thankful to have some extra time to get my house back in shape, and to get more organized for Christmas. I also hope to have lots of time to curl up with some great reads, and I recently had a chance to read one of my most anticipated 2023 releases! Earlier in the year, I read my first novel by Susannah B. Lewis, and I couldn't have loved it more. It was definitely one of my favorite reads of this entire year, and I've been looking forward to reading her next release ever since. Happy Friday Everyone :) Since it is Friday, I'll once again be participating in First Line Friday which is hosted by Hoarding Books .  For this week, I'm going to be sharing the first line from Melody Carlson's newest book, Courting Mr. Emerson. A confirmed bachelor, George vacillates between irritation and attraction whenever Willow is around--which to him seems like all too often. He's not interested in expanding his horizons or making new friends; it just hurts too much when you lose them. But as the summer progresses, George feels his defenses crumbling. The quest...
