Unleashed by Nancy Holder and Debbie Viguie Review

 Hello Friends :)

I pray today finds you all doing well, and I'm so thankful you've taken the time to drop on by The Preppy Book Princess today for another book review.

In 2024, I've found myself continuing the trend of trying to read some of the books that have been sitting on my shelves for quite sometime.

Unfortunately, that often means I'm reading books I don't enjoy as much or just choosing to straight get rid of others since I've become quite a bit pickier about the type of content I'm allowing myself to consume as a Christian reader.

However, if I find a title that still looks okay, I go ahead and read it, and as of late, this has usually been met with disastrous results.

Today's review is for one of these titles, and I hope you'll keep on reading down below to find out if it ended up being another bust or not.

Unleashed by Nancy Holder and Debbie Viguie:

Source: Bought for Myself

Publisher: Delacorte

Publication Date: November 22nd, 2011

Genre: Young Adult Fiction/Paranormal/Supernatural

But the secrets hidden here are more sinister than Katelyn could ever imagine. It’s a town with a history that reaches back centuries, spans continents, and conceals terrifying truths. And Katelyn McBride is about to change everything.

Broken families, ageless grudges, forced alliances, and love that blooms in the darkest night—welcome to Wolf Springs.

My Review:

This particular title had been sitting on my bookshelf for an embarrassingly long time, and I finally decided to go ahead and give it a try. I will say that I might have enjoyed it more if I read it when I actually first bought it, as my reading preferences have changed drastically since. I was still willing to give it a try, but it ended up not being at all what I was either expecting or hoping for.

To start with, the story drags insanely for how short of a book this actually is. I read through it pretty quickly, and even so, it felt like so much of the book was simply filler that didn't do much to expand on the plot or to better develop the characters. The setting was kind of strange, and I didn't understand why Kat's grandfather would have made her move to such a creepy place if he knew the dangers beforehand. It just seemed like a weird thing that was overlooked to make the plot of the book work under the circumstances.

Kat herself was a character that was hard to care about, as she's so wishy washy and can't seem to make up her mind about who she wants to trust or who she wants to be with. As someone who is not a fan of either love triangles or insta love, I was unimpressed that both were present, and take up quite a bit of the word count.

I did like Trick as a character, but I didn't enjoy the way Kat continuously pushed him aside for others, and then the way she gets upset when he ends up doing the same things to her.

It took a long time to get to the big plot reveal, and I have to say when it finally happens, I found myself let down. I'd already guessed at the majority of it anyways, and nothing else unexpected really happens.

I've cheated and read spoilers of the other two books in the series, and it sounds like it pretty much continues on the same way, so I don't think I'll feel the need to continue on with this series in the future.

Final Rating: 2/5.

Not one I enjoyed, and not one of the better books I've read within this genre.

Thanks so much for reading guys! Have a great rest of your day :)

Della and Darby by Susannah B. Lewis Review

Happy Monday Friends :) I pray today finds you all doing well, and I'm so thankful you decided to stop by my little corner of the internet. My husband and I actually have this week off of work for a much needed holiday, and I'm excited for the many fun things we have planned. Aside from the fun things, I'm honestly thankful to have some extra time to get my house back in shape, and to get more organized for Christmas. I also hope to have lots of time to curl up with some great reads, and I recently had a chance to read one of my most anticipated 2023 releases! Earlier in the year, I read my first novel by Susannah B. Lewis, and I couldn't have loved it more. It was definitely one of my favorite reads of this entire year, and I've been looking forward to reading her next release ever since. If you'd like to check out that review, you can do so using the link below: Bless Your Heart Rae Sutton Otherwise, keep on reading down below for today's full review. De...

First Line Friday: Courting Mr. Emerson

Happy Friday Everyone :) Since it is Friday, I'll once again be participating in First Line Friday which is hosted by Hoarding Books .  For this week, I'm going to be sharing the first line from Melody Carlson's newest book, Courting Mr. Emerson. About The Book: When the fun-loving and spontaneous artist Willow West meets buttoned-up, retired English teacher George Emerson, it's not exactly love at first sight. Though she does find the obsessive-compulsive man intriguing. Making it her mission to get him to loosen up and embrace life, she embarks on what seems like a lost cause--and finds herself falling for him in the process. A confirmed bachelor, George vacillates between irritation and attraction whenever Willow is around--which to him seems like all too often. He's not interested in expanding his horizons or making new friends; it just hurts too much when you lose them. But as the summer progresses, George feels his defenses crumbling. The quest...
