Live Your Truth and Other Lies: Exposing Popular Deceptions that Make Us Anxious, Exhausted and Self Obsessed by Alisa Childers

 Good Morning Sweet Friends :)

I pray today finds you all doing well, and I'm so thankful you've taken the time to drop on by The Preppy Book Princess today for another book review.

How have you all been doing lately? I've had a bit of a rough week as we've had to make some tough decisions that weren't the easiest, but that's okay because God is sovereign, and He always has a plan even when it might seem impossible.

Today's review is going to be for a wonderful Christian non fiction title that I recently had the chance to read, and I can't wait to tell you guys all about this one. It's much needed in our current society, and I hope you'll all keep reading down below for today's full review.

Live Your Truth and Other Lies: Exposing Popular Deceptions that Make Us Anxious, Exhausted and Self Obsessed by Alisa Childers:

Source: Library

Publisher: Tyndale Elevate

Publication Date: October 18th, 2022

Genre: Christian Non Fiction/Christian Living

Synopsis:

Are you tired of feeling like you have to check social media to find out what you're supposed to think? Are you weary of the latest self-help books that promise to set you free but only imprison you with laundry lists of studies to consider, positive affirmations to recite, and Facebook groups to join?

We've all seen the memes that populate the internet: live your truth, follow your heart, you only have one life to live. They sound nice and positive. But what if these slogans are actually lies that unhinge us from reality and leave us anxious and exhausted? Another Gospel? author Alisa Childers invites you to examine modern lies that are disguised as truths in today's culture. Everyday messages of peace, fulfillment, and empowerment swirl around social media. On the surface, they seem like sentiments of freedom and hope, but in reality they are deeply deceptive.

In Live Your Truth (and Other Lies), Alisa will help you to:

uncover the common lies repeated within progressive circles
hold on to the soul-restoring truths that God's Word offers
be empowered to live the way your Creator designed you

Being the captain of your own destiny and striving to make your dreams a reality is a huge burden that you were never meant to bear. Discover true freedom instead.

My Review:

I remember seeing Zoegirl perform at a youth conference back in 2004 (and yes I'm dating myself here.) I didn't know too much about them at the time, and in fact, I just happened to be at their show because I wanted a good seat for the band that was performing after them. I ended up enjoying some of their music and found myself listening to it at home much more often than I had expected to be. Fast forward many years later, and I stumbled upon Alisa Childers Youtube channel, and was fascinated by her story and her long journey to becoming an apologist. Last year, I read Another Gospel and I adored it. I loved how hard hitting it was, and how it stood in contrast to the many happy go lucky titles targeted at women within the Christian non fiction genre. I couldn't wait to give another one of her titles a try, and like its predecessor, Live Your Truth did not disappoint.

One thing I continue to enjoy about reading Alisa Childers work is the fact that she's full on willing to admit that she's made many mistakes during her Christian walk of faith, and she's not putting herself up on a shelf looking down at others. Instead she uses her moments of vulnerability to share with readers about what caused her own faith to stumble, and how Jesus pulled her through some of the darkest times of her life. At the end of the day, it's not about what any of us think or believe about popular cultural ideals, it's about what God's Word says about those ideals and how as Christians we're supposed to respond to them.

I think this is one of those titles that anyone who chooses to pick it up could gain some good insights from, and if you're also someone who is exhausted from the me me me mentality that's constantly pushed in society, then this might just be the book you've been waiting for. Love yourself, put yourself first, it's all about you; none of these are what we should be striving for, and Alisa does a great job of highlighting why looking to ourselves instead of our Savior only digs us into further messes, and is a big reason why the world is in the trouble it is today.

Final Rating: 5/5.

I can't possibly recommend this title anyone, and I look forward to reading more from Alisa in the future.

Thanks so much for reading guys! I pray you all have a great rest of your day :)

Della and Darby by Susannah B. Lewis Review

Happy Monday Friends :) I pray today finds you all doing well, and I'm so thankful you decided to stop by my little corner of the internet. My husband and I actually have this week off of work for a much needed holiday, and I'm excited for the many fun things we have planned. Aside from the fun things, I'm honestly thankful to have some extra time to get my house back in shape, and to get more organized for Christmas. I also hope to have lots of time to curl up with some great reads, and I recently had a chance to read one of my most anticipated 2023 releases! Earlier in the year, I read my first novel by Susannah B. Lewis, and I couldn't have loved it more. It was definitely one of my favorite reads of this entire year, and I've been looking forward to reading her next release ever since. If you'd like to check out that review, you can do so using the link below: Bless Your Heart Rae Sutton Otherwise, keep on reading down below for today's full review. De...

First Line Friday: Courting Mr. Emerson

Happy Friday Everyone :) Since it is Friday, I'll once again be participating in First Line Friday which is hosted by Hoarding Books .  For this week, I'm going to be sharing the first line from Melody Carlson's newest book, Courting Mr. Emerson. About The Book: When the fun-loving and spontaneous artist Willow West meets buttoned-up, retired English teacher George Emerson, it's not exactly love at first sight. Though she does find the obsessive-compulsive man intriguing. Making it her mission to get him to loosen up and embrace life, she embarks on what seems like a lost cause--and finds herself falling for him in the process. A confirmed bachelor, George vacillates between irritation and attraction whenever Willow is around--which to him seems like all too often. He's not interested in expanding his horizons or making new friends; it just hurts too much when you lose them. But as the summer progresses, George feels his defenses crumbling. The quest...
