Blogmas Day 20: DITL CP Holiday Train

Hello Everyone :)

I hope you're all doing well, and I thank you all for joining me today for Blogmas Day Twenty!

I always like to try and include at least one Day In The Life post during Blogmas, as I think it's fun to get a sneak peak into the way everyone celebrates during the festivities. This past Sunday I had a lot of fun Christmas events going on, and so I thought it would be the perfect DITL post for this year's Blogmas series.

Sunday was our city's turn for the CP Holiday Train to stop, and since for the first time ever they were scheduled for a weekend, I could actually attend this year. In the thirteen years they've been running it for, this was only my third time going, as usually it ends up scheduled for a Tuesday or Wednesday lunch hour, and I'm generally always working. After hearing that Terri Clark was one of the performers this year, I knew I definitely wanted to attend.

If you've never heard of this particular event before, every holiday season the CP Rail company sponsors two trains that run across most of Canada, and parts of the United States. The trains are beautifully decorated with Christmas lights, include a few different artists that put on a short concert at every stop, and it's all done in support of the Salvation Army Food Bank, so everyone attending is encouraged to bring a donation to the local food bank. Here's the website if you're interested in learning more about it: CP Holiday Train.

This year's performers at our stop were Kelly Prescott, Dallas Smith, and Terri Clark. I'd never personally heard of the first two before, but they both did a fantastic job.

Then Terri Clark took the stage, and everyone got really excited. I grew up loving country music, mainly from my mother's influence, so it was pretty awesome getting to hear one of the artists I grew up listening to performing in my hometown, and getting to enjoy the concert with my parents.

She performed a couple of Christmas songs, "Better Things To Do", and "Poor, Poor Pitiful Me", which was awesome as that was always my favorite by her.

Then all three artists came on stage together to do the finale of "Run Run Rudolph" but we ended up ducking out early, as with my raynaud's disease I really couldn't take any more of the cold, and neither my mom or I can stand that particular Christmas song. As well, with how many people had attended this year, we knew traffic leaving would be a nightmare so leaving a few minutes early was definitely a smart plan.

From there I ended up going back to my parent's for lunch, where my mom had made a delicious homemade cream of vegetable soup and hot chocolate.

I visited with my parent's, and my brother's for a bit, and then I headed home to change and get ready to head over to my friends, as her and I were doing our Christmas that afternoon.

It's tradition that we always try and get together for an afternoon the week or so before Christmas to spend some time together, and exchange gifts before the craziness of the holidays takes over.

In previous years, we've baked something together, but this year we decided just to make appetizers for dinner, and to have a nice visit, and watch a Christmas movie.

It's also always been our tradition that we get matching PJ's to wear on that afternoon, but this year we ended up waiting too long, and not having enough time to order, and we couldn't find any we liked in store. Instead, we ended up each choosing similar leggings and sweatshirts from Maurice's, and that's what we wore to Christmas.

This was the sweater and leggings that I chose, and they're both so comfortable I know I'll get lots of wear out of them in the cold winter months.

We ended up watching the Christmas movie Naughty and Nice, which we've both seen before, but also both really like.

We then cooked dinner, and my friend made a spinach dip tortilla wrap that was seriously delicious.

Afterwards, we exchanged gifts, and one of the amazing things she'd given me was a homemade room spray that smells absolutely divine!

All in all, this Sunday was such a fun experience, and a great way to get a jump start on celebrating Christmas :)

I hope you're all having a great day, and I'll see you all tomorrow for Blogmas Day 21!
