My Review:
An October Bride was one of the novellas in the Year of Weddings that I was most looking forward to reading, mainly because I love Katie Ganshert's writing style, and am almost always blown away when I pick up one of her books. Picking this one up was definitely no exception, as it was everything I was hoping for and more.
Emma's always tried to focus on her family. And when her dad's cancer diagnosis ends up with him only being given so much more time, she's not sure how she can possibly keep going on. By accident, one day she finds his bucket list, and sees that one of the items on the list is for him to walk her down the aisle. Since she canceled her engagement when he first got sick, this doesn't seem to be a probable situation. However, Emma and her old friend Jake come up with a crazy idea-they'll pretend to be engaged and have a big wedding so her dad can walk her down the aisle, and no one will have to know but the two of them that it's not actually real.
What follows in typical Katie Ganshert fashion is a heart warming contemporary novel about love, loss, and trusting our Heavenly Father through the good and the bad. I loved that Emma and Jake's relationship is slow moving, but also comes from them having been friends for such a long time. This novella had so much going on in it, and I honestly felt that it could have been written as full length novel and still have kept the reader engaged the entire time.
The characters were perfection, the romance was beautiful and swoon worthy, the small town setting was idyllic, and complete with nosy, townspeople who had to have their nose in everyone's business. The ending perfectly wrapped up this beautiful novella, and I would love to see Katie choose to revisit these characters in a future novel. Katie Ganshert is fast becoming one of my favorites, and I'm very much looking forward to reading her novella in the second Year of Weddings collection.
Final Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
