Why I Hate Green Beans by Lincee Ray Review

Hello Everyone :)

I hope you're all doing well, and I want to thank you for joining me for another book review today here on The Preppy Book Princess.

I've mentioned before that I don't actually read a lot of non-fiction books, but every so often I do, and sometimes I find a new favorite book in the process. That's definitely what happened with my newest non-fiction read, and I couldn't wait to share all about it with you guys.

Why I Hate Green Beans: And Other Confessions About Relationships, Reality TV, and How We See Ourselves by Lincee Ray:

Source: Church Library

Publisher: Revell

Publication Date: February 6th, 2018

Genre: Christian Non-Fiction

Synopsis:

If there is one thing Lincee Ray has learned over the years, it's that the majority of women on the planet struggle with insecurities. Our skinny jeans mock us. Our just-trying-to-help mothers are just driving us crazy. Our social media feeds taunt us with everyone else's picture-perfect lives. It's enough to send you on a gummy-bear bender while binge-watching Friendsreruns and not showering for a week. Lincee knows. She's been there. Right there, in fact. Gummy bears and all.

For every woman who's ever wondered if she's unlovable, uninteresting, or unattractive, Lincee offers her particular brand of hilarious (and hard-hitting) self-reflection. Like a true friend, she shows us that the fastest way to happiness is to embrace ourselves in all our imperfection, trust that God knew what he was doing when he made us, and maybe go buy a new tube of mascara. Walk alongside Lincee as she discovers that her identity is not found in her job, her relationship status, her bank account, or her social circle. It's found in Christ.

My Review:

I can honestly say that I have never laughed while reading a book as much as I did while devouring Lincee Ray's masterpiece, Why I Hate Green Beans. I wasn't personally familiar with her blog before discovering the novel, but I have quickly become a fan of her hilarious, sarcastic personality, her hysterically funny reality TV recaps, and her emphasis on faith and Jesus in a time and place where less importance is being put on such.

From start to finish, this book will keep every reader who picks it up positively enchanted, and every woman out there will be able to relate to at least some of the frustrating points that Lincee touches on throughout her personal story. While I spent a good portion of this one laughing so hard I was almost hysterical, there's also a lot of serious moments that Lincee touches on throughout her life. Her life hasn't been easy, and like anyone else, she's had her fair share of struggles. Reading about her path to overcome these obstacles by following Jesus and surrounding herself with friends and family will be an inspiration to each and every reader, just like it definitely was for me.

I know as women we all struggle with our own range of insecurities-many of which are not necessarily of our own doing. Reading a take no prisoner, full barrel ahead account of these struggles was exactly what I needed, and all of the hilarity thrown in around it definitely gave me the positive release I so desperately needed. If you haven't taken the time to read this one yet, I highly recommend you do. It's addicting, it's refreshing, it's faith based, it's realistic, it's hilarious, and it's one of the most honest books I've read in a very long time. I can't possibly recommend this enough, and I think I'm definitely going to have to become a regular reader of this fabulous lady's blog.

Final Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Quotables:

"I had to put my foot down the day beets established a regular rotation in my diet. I believe any food that stains a paper plate shouldn't be introduced into my digestive system."

"Presenting myself as an eligible lady is tricky business. I should be a well-oiled machine after watching so many seasons of the bachelor. Alas, I am not. I'm more of a flailing ball of awkward who often wonders if guys still think it's fly when girls 'stop by in the summer.''

Thanks so much for reading guys! Have a great rest of your day!

Della and Darby by Susannah B. Lewis Review

Happy Monday Friends :) I pray today finds you all doing well, and I'm so thankful you decided to stop by my little corner of the internet. My husband and I actually have this week off of work for a much needed holiday, and I'm excited for the many fun things we have planned. Aside from the fun things, I'm honestly thankful to have some extra time to get my house back in shape, and to get more organized for Christmas. I also hope to have lots of time to curl up with some great reads, and I recently had a chance to read one of my most anticipated 2023 releases! Earlier in the year, I read my first novel by Susannah B. Lewis, and I couldn't have loved it more. It was definitely one of my favorite reads of this entire year, and I've been looking forward to reading her next release ever since. If you'd like to check out that review, you can do so using the link below: Bless Your Heart Rae Sutton Otherwise, keep on reading down below for today's full review. De...

First Line Friday: Courting Mr. Emerson

Happy Friday Everyone :) Since it is Friday, I'll once again be participating in First Line Friday which is hosted by Hoarding Books .  For this week, I'm going to be sharing the first line from Melody Carlson's newest book, Courting Mr. Emerson. About The Book: When the fun-loving and spontaneous artist Willow West meets buttoned-up, retired English teacher George Emerson, it's not exactly love at first sight. Though she does find the obsessive-compulsive man intriguing. Making it her mission to get him to loosen up and embrace life, she embarks on what seems like a lost cause--and finds herself falling for him in the process. A confirmed bachelor, George vacillates between irritation and attraction whenever Willow is around--which to him seems like all too often. He's not interested in expanding his horizons or making new friends; it just hurts too much when you lose them. But as the summer progresses, George feels his defenses crumbling. The quest...

Top Ten Tuesday: Ten Characters I'd name a child/cat/dog/car/ etc After.

Happy Tuesday guys! I enjoyed Top Ten Tuesday so much last week, that I decided to go ahead and take part again this week. Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and The Bookish, and here's the link to the main page if you're interested in becoming a part of it: http://www.brokeandbookish.com/p/top-ten-tuesday-other-features.html Today's topic is: Ten Characters I'd Name A Child/Cat/Dog/Car/ etc After, and I think it's going to be a really fun one. First, Characters I'd Name a Pet after: 1) Katsa from Kristin Cashore's Graceling: I have to start with Katsa, since it is actually what we named our adorable black and white kitten almost a year ago. She's grown so much since this picture, but this was taken right after we decided on her name. We tried several different book characters, but Katsa is the one she loved right away, and so is what we ended up going with. 2) Rose from Richelle Mead's Vampire Academ...
