The Story Raider by Lindsay A Franklin Review

Happy Friday Everyone :)

I hope you've all had a great week so far. You may have noticed that I didn't end up posting on Wednesday. Wednesday was actually my birthday, and I decided to take the day off from blogging and reviewing, in order to spend a nice quiet day with my husband and some of my family. Sometimes it's nice to spend birthdays quietly with the people love, and I'm glad I set the day aside this year to do that.

However, now I'm back feeling much refreshed and ready to dive into more reading and reviewing. How has your 2020 reading been going so far?

I personally set my 2020 goodreads goal at 115 novels, and while I will probably end up reading more than that, I'm also hoping to focus more on reviewing more of the books I read this year rather than just speedily going from one book to the next.

For today's post, I'd like to share a review with you all for a much anticipated read for me. I'd read the first book in this series last year, and I'd been wanting to read the second book ever since it's release, but I couldn't get it at our library, and the physical copies were sold out online from the bookstores I usually order from.

However, my library finally got a copy within the province, and I was extremely happy to finally get to pick this one up.

The Story Raider by Lindsay A Franklin:

Source: Library

Publisher: Enclave Publishing

Publication Date: April 30th, 2019

Genre: Young Adult/Fantasy

Series: The Weaver Trilogy

Synopsis:

Deceiving an empire is a treacherous game.

Tanwen and the Corsyth weavers race to collect the strands of an ancient cure that might save Gryfelle. But Tanwen has a secret—Gryfelle isn’t the only one afflicted by the weaver's curse.

As Queen Braith struggles to assert her rule, a new arrival throws her tenuous claim to the Tirian throne into question. Braith’s heart is turned upside down, and she’s not sure she can trust anyone—least of all herself.

The puppet master behind Gareth’s rise to power has designs on Tanwen and the story weavers and will stop at nothing to reclaim the throne. A plot to incite the angry peasants of Tir takes shape, and those dearest to Tanwen will be caught in the crossfire. As the fight for Tir consumes the realm, no one can remain innocent.

My Review:

I've been anxiously awaiting reading The Story Raider ever since I devoured the first book in the Weaver trilogy, but I was honestly also a little hesitant. The first book was captivating, and completely original, and I'd had a hard time putting it down. I was unsure as to whether or not the sequel could possibly live up to its predecessor, but my worries were quickly put to rest after I found myself once again immersed in this beautiful world.

It's hard to do an in depth review of this one without giving away spoilers, so this review may be a bit more vague than mine usually are. While I had loved the world building and the magical system in the first book, I appreciated that both are expanded even more so throughout the course of this one. The reader is treated to many more intricate details woven together about the magic system, and about the kingdom of Tir and its surrounding areas. I loved the details given about each surrounding kingdom, and the way that many of the Corsyth Weavers have ties to said kingdoms.

Lindsay Franklin's character development is spot on, and I appreciated how much growth is shown by almost every character throughout this second installment. We already knew from the first book the selflessness and courage that exist in both Tannie and Mor's characters, but this was made even more evident as they're faced with decisions that will shatter the foundation of everything they've ever known. Tannie and Mor's friendship is one of my favorite elements of this series, and I was definitely not disappointed in the way their friendship continues to grow amidst the difficulties they're facing in The Story Raider.

Lastly, I have to mention how much I love the Christian parallels that are woven so seamlessly throughout this fantastic tale. The themes of light versus darkness, and the Creator always having a master plan are woven perfectly into the story line, and showcase just how talented of a storyteller Lindsay Franklin truly is.

This one honestly has a little bit of everything you could want in a fantasy tale. The reader's treated to a daring quest, selfless acts of bravery, a magical system both complex and enchanting, a plot that will keep you on the edge of your seat, a budding romance, a fight to see good emerge over evil, and a plot twist that I don't think anyone could possibly see coming.

If you're looking for an amazing fantasy series to immerse yourself in, then look no further than Lindsay A Franklin's Weaver trilogy.

Final Rating 4/5

Thanks so much for reading guys! Have a great rest of your day :)

First Line Friday: Courting Mr. Emerson

Happy Friday Everyone :) Since it is Friday, I'll once again be participating in First Line Friday which is hosted by Hoarding Books .  For this week, I'm going to be sharing the first line from Melody Carlson's newest book, Courting Mr. Emerson. About The Book: When the fun-loving and spontaneous artist Willow West meets buttoned-up, retired English teacher George Emerson, it's not exactly love at first sight. Though she does find the obsessive-compulsive man intriguing. Making it her mission to get him to loosen up and embrace life, she embarks on what seems like a lost cause--and finds herself falling for him in the process. A confirmed bachelor, George vacillates between irritation and attraction whenever Willow is around--which to him seems like all too often. He's not interested in expanding his horizons or making new friends; it just hurts too much when you lose them. But as the summer progresses, George feels his defenses crumbling. The quest...

First Line Friday: The Inheritance

Happy Friday Everyone :) I hope you're all had a great week and that you're staying safe no matter where you are. I haven't been leaving my house much lately other than for work, and because of this, I've had lots of reading time on my hands. Last year my hubby and I took a road trip that included a visit to our favorite bookstore, and we decided to each pick a book that wouldn't be our first choice. The purpose was to try and read something that still interested us, but would maybe be a bit different than what we would typically go for first. My pick ended up being The Inheritance by Michael Phillips, a book I actually ended up being quite excited about, despite never having heard of it prior. Unfortunately, it ended up sitting on my bookshelf ever since, and I'm so thankful I finally got the opportunity to pick it up and start reading it this past week. The Inheritance by Michael Phillips: About the Book: The death of the clan patriarch h...

Noah Harding lives a simple life as a firefighter and rancher until Camille cras...
