Acceptable Risk by Lynette Eason Review

Hello Friends :)

I hope you're all doing well, and I want to thank you for joining me for another book review here on The Preppy Book Princess.

Near the end of 2019, I had read my very first Lynette Eason novel, the first book in her Danger Never Sleeps series. You can find that review here.

Ever since finishing that one, I've been anxiously awaiting the opportunity to get to read the second book in this series, and a few days ago I finally got the chance to do so.

Today I'm here to share with all of you what I ended up thinking about it.

Acceptable Risk by Lynette Eason:

Source: Publisher via NetGalley

Publisher: Revell

Publication Date: August 4th, 2020

Genre: Christian Fiction/Christian Suspense

Series: Danger Never Sleeps

Synopsis:

Sarah Denning is a military journalist with the Army in the Middle East when her convoy is attacked and she's taken hostage. When former Army Ranger Gavin Black is asked by his old unit commander--Sarah's imposing father--to plan an extremely risky rescue, he reluctantly agrees and successfully executes it.

Back in the US, Sarah is livid when she's discharged on a false psychiatric evaluation and vows to return to the Army. Until she learns of her brother's suicide. Unable to believe her brother would do such a thing, she puts her plans on hold and enlists Gavin to help her discover the truth. What they uncover may be the biggest story of Sarah's career--if she can survive long enough to write it.

Strap in for another breakneck nail-biter from bestselling romantic suspense author Lynette Eason that will have you up turning pages long into the night.

My Review:

Acceptable Risk is the second book in Lynette Eason's Danger Never Sleeps series, and I had a hard time putting it down once I started it. Just like the previous title in the series, this one is an action packed, nail biter that starts out with a bang and the suspense never really stops once it starts.

This romantic suspense novel will keep readers on the edge of their seats as they try and piece together all the components of the dastardly plot unfolding around them. In this particular title, we follow Sarah (an investigative journalist who has received an honorable discharge from the army), and Gavin (a former military operative who now runs his own security business). When Gavin is called in by Sarah's father to assist in her rescue, he finds himself getting dragged in deeper than he normally ever would be with his clients. The two can't deny that attraction is simmering between the two of them, but with both of their lives apparently on the line, they have no choice but to work together to get to the bottom of everything before tragedy strikes.

I appreciated the fact that Lynette Eason wrote these two titles in a way that you can really read them as standalones. Having read the first book, I appreciated already having been introduced to some of the main characters, but I don't feel you would miss out on too much if you chose to read them out of order. I'm always blown away by the sinister mystery plots that Lynette Eason is able to successfully pull off, and Acceptable Risk may be her most intense yet. New twists and turn spring up in almost every single chapter, and while I had pinpointed one of the evil masterminds fairly early in the story, I still ended up being surprised with how everything came to play out.

I often have a hard time reading about books that deal with suicide, but I thought Lynette Eason did a fantastic job of representing it both authentically, but also tastefully. I did want to mention that it plays a pretty big part of this book however, as I know for some it is a trigger, and I wouldn't want anyone going into this one unaware.

Overall, I really ended up enjoying this one. I thought the romance was well done, I enjoyed the writing and the way the mystery keeps building into something bigger and bigger. I enjoyed the secondary characters; especially Sarah's brother Caden, and I'm already looking forward to reading the next book in the series when it releases.

Definitely pick this one up if you're a fan of Christian romantic suspense.

Final Rating: 4/5.

Thanks so much to Revell for the opportunity to read and review this!

I voluntarily read and reviewed a complimentary advance reader copy of this novel from the publisher (Revell) via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I was not required to give a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Thanks so much for reading guys! Have a great rest of your day :)

First Line Friday: Courting Mr. Emerson

Happy Friday Everyone :) Since it is Friday, I'll once again be participating in First Line Friday which is hosted by Hoarding Books .  For this week, I'm going to be sharing the first line from Melody Carlson's newest book, Courting Mr. Emerson. About The Book: When the fun-loving and spontaneous artist Willow West meets buttoned-up, retired English teacher George Emerson, it's not exactly love at first sight. Though she does find the obsessive-compulsive man intriguing. Making it her mission to get him to loosen up and embrace life, she embarks on what seems like a lost cause--and finds herself falling for him in the process. A confirmed bachelor, George vacillates between irritation and attraction whenever Willow is around--which to him seems like all too often. He's not interested in expanding his horizons or making new friends; it just hurts too much when you lose them. But as the summer progresses, George feels his defenses crumbling. The quest...

First Line Friday: The Inheritance

Happy Friday Everyone :) I hope you're all had a great week and that you're staying safe no matter where you are. I haven't been leaving my house much lately other than for work, and because of this, I've had lots of reading time on my hands. Last year my hubby and I took a road trip that included a visit to our favorite bookstore, and we decided to each pick a book that wouldn't be our first choice. The purpose was to try and read something that still interested us, but would maybe be a bit different than what we would typically go for first. My pick ended up being The Inheritance by Michael Phillips, a book I actually ended up being quite excited about, despite never having heard of it prior. Unfortunately, it ended up sitting on my bookshelf ever since, and I'm so thankful I finally got the opportunity to pick it up and start reading it this past week. The Inheritance by Michael Phillips: About the Book: The death of the clan patriarch h...
