First Line Friday: Dancing With Fireflies

Happy Friday Everyone :)

I hope you've all had a great week, and that you're all looking forward to the weekend.

For today's post, I'm once again excited to be linking up with Hoarding Books for another edition of First Line Friday.

First Line Friday simply consists of sharing the first line from the book you're currently reading.

During all these days of social distancing, I've been reading through a lot of the books that had been sitting on my bookshelves for far too long. One of these books ended up being the first title in Denise Hunter's Chapel Springs series, and since I enjoyed it so much, I ended up going ahead and purchasing the second book in the series. My first line today comes from the second book, which I recently finished.

Dancing With Fireflies by Denise Hunter:

About the Book:

Jade returns home to Chapel Springs after years of protecting her fragile heart. Then along comes Daniel, making her long to dance again.

Creative and complicated, Jade McKinley felt like a weed in a rose garden growing up in Chapel Springs. When she left, she thought she'd never look back. But now, pregnant, alone, and broke, she has no other choice but to return.

The mayor of Chapel Springs, Daniel Dawson, has been an honorary member of the McKinley family for years. While his own home life was almost non-existent, Daniel fit right into the boisterous McKinley family. He's loved Jade for years, but she always saw him as a big brother. Now that she's back, his feelings are stronger than ever.

As Jade attempts to settle in, nothing feels right. God seems far away, she's hiding secrets from her family, and she's strangely attracted to the man who's always called her "squirt." Finding her way home may prove more difficult than she imagined.

(synopsis from goodreads)

My Thoughts:

I didn't end up loving this one quite as much as I did the first book, but I still thought it was a pretty great story. Jade and Daniel's relationship was definitely not conventional, and I enjoyed reading about everything they have to overcome to finally be together. My favorite part was probably how the title tied in the story; it was such a beautiful component of it.

First Line (from the prologue):

"Jade McKinley lowered the stove to medium and returned the chicken breasts to the pan."

What book are you currently reading? Be sure and leave the first line in the comments, and then hop on over to Hoarding Books to see who else is participating this week.

I hope you all have a great weekend with lots of quality reading time.

Della and Darby by Susannah B. Lewis Review

Happy Monday Friends :) I pray today finds you all doing well, and I'm so thankful you decided to stop by my little corner of the internet. My husband and I actually have this week off of work for a much needed holiday, and I'm excited for the many fun things we have planned. Aside from the fun things, I'm honestly thankful to have some extra time to get my house back in shape, and to get more organized for Christmas. I also hope to have lots of time to curl up with some great reads, and I recently had a chance to read one of my most anticipated 2023 releases! Earlier in the year, I read my first novel by Susannah B. Lewis, and I couldn't have loved it more. It was definitely one of my favorite reads of this entire year, and I've been looking forward to reading her next release ever since. If you'd like to check out that review, you can do so using the link below: Bless Your Heart Rae Sutton Otherwise, keep on reading down below for today's full review. De...

First Line Friday: Courting Mr. Emerson

Happy Friday Everyone :) Since it is Friday, I'll once again be participating in First Line Friday which is hosted by Hoarding Books .  For this week, I'm going to be sharing the first line from Melody Carlson's newest book, Courting Mr. Emerson. About The Book: When the fun-loving and spontaneous artist Willow West meets buttoned-up, retired English teacher George Emerson, it's not exactly love at first sight. Though she does find the obsessive-compulsive man intriguing. Making it her mission to get him to loosen up and embrace life, she embarks on what seems like a lost cause--and finds herself falling for him in the process. A confirmed bachelor, George vacillates between irritation and attraction whenever Willow is around--which to him seems like all too often. He's not interested in expanding his horizons or making new friends; it just hurts too much when you lose them. But as the summer progresses, George feels his defenses crumbling. The quest...
