When My Mind Winds Up: A Pull No Punches Approach to Anxiety by Jennifer Ervig Review

Happy Friday friends :)

Do you all have any fun plans for the weekend?

We're supposed to have some pretty yucky weather this weekend, with both snow and strong winds in the forecast, so I'm pretty much planning to read, clean and bake.

It's been a little while since I last shared a non-fiction review with you all, and I'm especially excited to share about today's title. I honestly think this book has the potential to help so many the way it did me, and I hope you'll all take the time to look into this one.

My Review:

Anxiety has never been the easiest topic to talk about, and over the years, society has taken so many wrong approaches to how it should be handled. We went from it being extremely stigmatized to the point that nobody suffering from it ever wanted to talk about it, to a new ideal where it's almost glamorized and treated as something to be proud of. As someone who has struggled with anxiety for as long as I can remember, I can honestly state that I've never read a book that truly addressed the entire picture of anxiety as well as Jennifer Ervig does in When My Mind Winds Up.

Anxiety is not something anyone should be ashamed of having to deal with, and the author does a fantastic job of representing this fact. However, she also smashes the ideal head on that it's okay to turn your struggles with anxiety into a selfish notion that you should be able to do whatever you want whenever you want and that you should always be able to focus only on yourself. Why does her method work better than anything else I've ever read? The answer to that is easy; she chooses to approach the entire conversation from a Christian perspective and emphasizes the importance of turning to and focusing on Jesus rather than on ourselves. She shows practical ways to turn your mind to other things, and to focus on the promises of scripture when anxiety attacks, and she stresses over and over again the importance of truly knowing and being known by our Lord and Savior.

While I don't think every one of her ideas will work for every single person, I'm confident that everyone will be able to apply at least a few of the ideas she mentions throughout this guide to their own personal situations. I felt so hopeful and understood after finishing this one, and I think that Jennifer Ervig presents everything in a practical manner that makes it seem less daunting to apply to each reader's own life. Overall, I loved the entire message of this book, and I appreciated how she demonstrates successfully that anxiety doesn't have to control your entire life; nor does it have to be what defines you.

It's not a quick fix situation, which she is quick to point out, but it's also not a hopeless situation, and the fact that she demonstrated the difference was much appreciated by this reader.

I can't personally recommend this one enough, and I look forward to reading more of Jennifer's books in the future.

Final Rating: 5/5.

Thanks so much to Jennifer Ervig for sending me a complimentary copy of this novel to read and review.

I voluntarily read and reviewed a complimentary copy of this novel from the author in exchange for an honest review. I was not required to give a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Thanks so much for reading guys! May you all feel the Lord's presence strongly throughout this weekend :)

Della and Darby by Susannah B. Lewis Review

Happy Monday Friends :) I pray today finds you all doing well, and I'm so thankful you decided to stop by my little corner of the internet. My husband and I actually have this week off of work for a much needed holiday, and I'm excited for the many fun things we have planned. Aside from the fun things, I'm honestly thankful to have some extra time to get my house back in shape, and to get more organized for Christmas. I also hope to have lots of time to curl up with some great reads, and I recently had a chance to read one of my most anticipated 2023 releases! Earlier in the year, I read my first novel by Susannah B. Lewis, and I couldn't have loved it more. It was definitely one of my favorite reads of this entire year, and I've been looking forward to reading her next release ever since. First Line Friday: All's Fair in Love and Cupcakes

Happy Friday Everyone :) I hope you've all had a great week, and that you're looking forward to the weekend. Today I'm excited to once again be linking up with Hoarding Books for First Line Friday. First Line Friday is one of my favorite weekly memes, and it simply consists of sharing the first line of the book you're currently reading. I've had a lot of extra reading time on my hands lately because of all the social distancing, and as such, I've been able to read a lot of the titles that have been sitting on my shelves for quite some time. Today's book is one of such titles, and I'm happy that I finally found the time to get to it as I'm really enjoying it so far. All's Fair in Love and Cupcakes by Betsy St. Amant: About the Book: Kat inspected rows of the same old cupcakes. They seemed to blink back at her, as if they knew she was capable of so much more. Kat Varland has had enough of chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry. At twenty-six years old...
