Hello Friends :)
I hope you're all doing well, and I want to thank you all for joining me for another book review here on The Preppy Book Princess.
Do any of you guys love discovering new self published titles on Amazon? I have a really bad habit of constantly looking up books on there, and adding so many new titles to my wish list and tbr list.
Once in awhile, I try and go back and actually purchase some of the never ending titles I've added to those lists, and quite often I really end up enjoying them.
Today I'd like to share with you all my review for one of my most recently purchased Amazon titles.
Love at First Fight by Maggie Dallen:
Source: Bought for Myself
Publication Date: January 13th, 2019
Genre: Young Adult Fiction/Young Adult Contemporary
Series: Geeks Gone Wild
Synopsis:
Band Geek vs Quarterback...
One humiliating photo, a stupid prank, and a hashtag that goes viral. That's how my senior year goes from predictable to absurd in a heartbeat. This year is supposed to be easy. I've finally scored first chair in band, my college applications are done, and all my friends and I have to do is survive one more year of high school before our real lives can begin. Instead, I find myself in trouble with the principal, humiliated in front of the entire school, and fighting with my neighbor—AKA star quarterback, Prince Charming, and nicest guy on the planet.
And that's just on the first day back at school. Trust me, it only gets worse from there. As #GeeksGoneWild trends on social media, my friends and I are the targets of an online witch hunt. But they've picked on the wrong people and retaliation is severe. As the tension escalates, it soon becomes clear that someone needs to step up and put an end to this nonsense. If that means playing nice with the quarterback, I guess that's what I have to do. Now if someone could please tell my heart that this new friendship is just for show. And the kisses...oh, the kisses. Someone please remind me that they don't mean a thing.

My Review:
Last year I was looking for books that had a Comic Con setting, and I stumbled upon this series by Maggie Dallen. It was technically the third book that originally caught my eye (since it was the one that actually has a Comic Con setting), but I decided I wanted to go ahead and read them in order. I'm so glad I made the decision to do so, as even though I'm definitely not in the target age group for this one, I really ended up enjoying it.
I expected to like Love at First Fight, but I didn't expect to end up enjoying this quirky, adorable YA contemporary as much as I did. I really enjoyed how it's written in both Margo and Jason's POV's, as I thought that added a lot to the story line. While this is definitely a bit of a fluffier contemorary, it still tackles some difficult issues including: cyber bullying, body imaging, stereotyping, and dealing with the consequences of bad decisions.
I really enjoyed Margo and Jason's slow burn romance, and I liked the fact that it included a little bit of the fake dating trope, as I always enjoy those kinds of stories. I also appreciated the fact that the story doesn't just focus around the two main characters, and instead incorporates their friends and classmates, and in this way I thought it better set up the rest of the series.
While I could have done without some of the minor content issues, for the most part I really ended up enjoying this, and would definitely recommend it for anyone who's a fan of young adult contemporaries. It could have been a tad bit cleaner for more liking, but overall, I thought it was a pretty good story.
Final Rating: 3.5/5.
I look forward to continuing on with the next book in the series.
Thanks so much for reading guys! Have a great rest of your day :)
