Beyond the Tides by Liz Johnson Review

 Happy Monday Friends :)

I pray this week finds you all well, and I want to thank you for joining me for another book review here on The Preppy Book Princess.

I'm especially excited for today's review, as it's a review for one of my most anticipated releases for 2021.

This beautiful story releases next month, and I can guarantee you're not going to want to miss it.

First, however, I need to tell you all why exactly that is, so let's jump right into today's review.

Beyond the Tides by Liz Johnson Review:

Source: Publisher via NetGalley

Publisher: Revell

Publication Date: August 3rd, 2021

Genre: Christian Fiction/Women's Fiction/Contemporary

Series: Prince Edward Island Shores

Synopsis:

When Meg Whitaker's father decides to sell the family's lobster-fishing business to her high school nemesis, she sets out to prove she should inherit it instead. Though she's never had any interest in running the small fleet--or even getting on a boat due to her persistent seasickness--she can't stand to see Oliver Ross take over. Not when he ruined her dreams for a science scholarship and an Ivy League education ten years ago.

Oliver isn't proud of what he did back then. Angry and broken by his father walking out on his family, he lashed out at Meg--an innocent bystander. But owning a respected fishing fleet on Prince Edward Island is the opportunity of a lifetime, and he's not about to walk away just because Meg wants him to.

Meg's father has the perfect solution: Oliver and Meg must work the business together, and at the end of the season, he'll decide who gets it. Along the way, they may discover that their stories are more similar than they thought . . . and their dreams aren't what they expected.

Bestselling author Liz Johnson invites you back to Prince Edward Island for a brand-new series about family, forgiveness, and the kind of love that heals all wounds.

My Review:

When I found out that Liz Johnson was returning her readers to Prince Edward Island in her upcoming series, I couldn't wait to dive into it. Beyond the Tides is a beautiful, heart wrenching contemporary that will pull at the heartstrings of every reader who chooses to pick it up, and is what I believe is going to be the start of an amazing new series.

Meg and Oliver haven't spoken in ten years, and honestly, both of them would have been content to keep it that way. However, when Meg finds out that her father intends to sell the family's lobster fishing business to Oliver, she refuses to stand by and watch it happen. The two make a deal with her dad: they work together for this season, and he'll make a decision about who deserves the business at the end of it. At first, the only sparks flying are ones of anger and bitterness, but soon both start to see something in the other they never expected to find, and it leaves them wondering if they could ever possibly truly put the past behind them in order to look forward to a future together.

With a setting that speaks volumes of the beauty and heritage of one of Canada's most sought after vacation destinations, an emphasis on faith and trusting Him through all the ups and downs, and a heartfelt romance that truly feels both authentic and original at the same time, Beyond the Tides is another mesmerizing tale from one of my favorite authors, and one that I will be highly recommending.

I loved the romance, the familial tension that sets up plotlines for future stories, the way grief is portrayed in how Meg and her father have to come to terms with her mother's illness, and the surprise twist at the end I never could have seen coming. With so many Christian contemporaries having been a disappointment this year, I'm so thankful that Liz Johnson's upcoming release definitely wasn't, and I can't wait to read more from this series in the future.

As a side note, as someone who has been born and raised in Canada and can't stand Tim Horton's, I always find it so funny when books set in Canada include the characters being addicted to their coffee. It made me laugh, and is probably pretty accurate for a large amount of Canadians.

Final Rating: 5/5.

Thanks so much to Revell for allowing me to read and review this!

I voluntarily read and reviewed a complimentary advance reader copy of this novel from the publisher (Revell) in exchange for an honest review. I was not required to give a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Thanks for reading guys! I pray you all have a great rest of your day, and look forward to sharing another review with you all on Monday!

First Line Friday: Courting Mr. Emerson

Happy Friday Everyone :) Since it is Friday, I'll once again be participating in First Line Friday which is hosted by Hoarding Books .  For this week, I'm going to be sharing the first line from Melody Carlson's newest book, Courting Mr. Emerson. About The Book: When the fun-loving and spontaneous artist Willow West meets buttoned-up, retired English teacher George Emerson, it's not exactly love at first sight. Though she does find the obsessive-compulsive man intriguing. Making it her mission to get him to loosen up and embrace life, she embarks on what seems like a lost cause--and finds herself falling for him in the process. A confirmed bachelor, George vacillates between irritation and attraction whenever Willow is around--which to him seems like all too often. He's not interested in expanding his horizons or making new friends; it just hurts too much when you lose them. But as the summer progresses, George feels his defenses crumbling. The quest...

First Line Friday: The Inheritance

Happy Friday Everyone :) I hope you're all had a great week and that you're staying safe no matter where you are. I haven't been leaving my house much lately other than for work, and because of this, I've had lots of reading time on my hands. Last year my hubby and I took a road trip that included a visit to our favorite bookstore, and we decided to each pick a book that wouldn't be our first choice. The purpose was to try and read something that still interested us, but would maybe be a bit different than what we would typically go for first. My pick ended up being The Inheritance by Michael Phillips, a book I actually ended up being quite excited about, despite never having heard of it prior. Unfortunately, it ended up sitting on my bookshelf ever since, and I'm so thankful I finally got the opportunity to pick it up and start reading it this past week. The Inheritance by Michael Phillips: About the Book: The death of the clan patriarch h...
