Tide and Punishment by Bree Baker Review

 Hello Friends :)

I'm so glad you decided to join me today here on The Preppy Book Princess for another book review.

Today's supposed to be the hottest day yet in this awful heat wave my area's getting hit with, and so I'm expecting to be spending a large part of the day inside with the air conditioning.

As the weather has turned so much warmer, I've really been finding myself in the mood to read cozy mysteries for whatever reason.

I've been making my way through quite a few of them lately, most of which have been ones by Julie Anne Lindsey writing under her real name and her various pen names.

In the past couple of weeks, I've shared my reviews of the first two books in her Seaside Café Mystery series:

Live and Let Chai

No Good Tea Goes Unpunished

And today I'm excited to get to share my review of the third book with you all.

Tide and Punishment by Bree Baker:

Source: Libby App

Publisher: Poisoned Pen Press

Publication Date: September 24th, 2019

Genre: Cozy Mystery

Series: Seaside Cafe Mystery

Synopsis

No one dreams of a killer Christmas...

It's Christmastime in Charm, North Carolina, and while Everly Swan would prefer to focus on decorating her iced tea shop for its first holiday season, Great-Aunt Fran has decided to run for mayor against her long-time nemesis. But when the other candidate turns up dead just before the first scheduled debate, all eyes turn to Fran as the suspect with the most obvious motive.

Everly knows her sweet, elderly Aunt Fran couldn't have murdered anyone, but as she struggles to find the real killer, it begins to seem like this may be the last merry Christmas her family may ever have.

My Review:

Everly Swan and all the residents of Charm are back in this Christmas themed installment in Bree Baker's beloved Seaside Café Mystery series. Everly is looking forward to celebrating one of her favorite times of the year with the people she loves the most, and looking forward to putting the craziness of the last few months behind her. However, her café once again finds itself the target of a murder-this time of the town's mayor; right after her beloved aunt Fran announces her intentions to run against him in the upcoming election. Grady warns Everly to stay away from the case and keep herself out of harms way, but how can she possibly do so when her beloved aunt is the prime suspect in the case?

With all the hijinks and hilarity I've come to expect from any novel penned by this fabulous lady, Tide and Punishment is another keep the reader glued to the pages mystery, and I could barely bring myself to put it down once I started it. I truly adore the setting of this series (both the town and the café), and I love the numerous traditions the town partakes in each and every installment. I've also been enjoying the fact that the romance between Everly and Grady is definitely slow burn, and the readers get to come along for the entirety of the ride.

The only downside to this one for me was the I felt that the culprit was a tad on the obvious side, and I'd pieced together most of the mystery quite early on. I still really enjoyed it though, and I look forward to diving into book four in the very near future.

Final Rating: 4/5.

Thanks so much for reading guys! Have a great rest of your day :)

Della and Darby by Susannah B. Lewis Review

Happy Monday Friends :) I pray today finds you all doing well, and I'm so thankful you decided to stop by my little corner of the internet. My husband and I actually have this week off of work for a much needed holiday, and I'm excited for the many fun things we have planned. Aside from the fun things, I'm honestly thankful to have some extra time to get my house back in shape, and to get more organized for Christmas. I also hope to have lots of time to curl up with some great reads, and I recently had a chance to read one of my most anticipated 2023 releases! Earlier in the year, I read my first novel by Susannah B. Lewis, and I couldn't have loved it more. It was definitely one of my favorite reads of this entire year, and I've been looking forward to reading her next release ever since. If you'd like to check out that review, you can do so using the link below: Bless Your Heart Rae Sutton Otherwise, keep on reading down below for today's full review. De...

First Line Friday: All's Fair in Love and Cupcakes

Happy Friday Everyone :) I hope you've all had a great week, and that you're looking forward to the weekend. Today I'm excited to once again be linking up with Hoarding Books for First Line Friday. First Line Friday is one of my favorite weekly memes, and it simply consists of sharing the first line of the book you're currently reading. I've had a lot of extra reading time on my hands lately because of all the social distancing, and as such, I've been able to read a lot of the titles that have been sitting on my shelves for quite some time. Today's book is one of such titles, and I'm happy that I finally found the time to get to it as I'm really enjoying it so far. All's Fair in Love and Cupcakes by Betsy St. Amant: About the Book: Kat inspected rows of the same old cupcakes. They seemed to blink back at her, as if they knew she was capable of so much more. Kat Varland has had enough of chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry. At twenty-six years old...
