Sunkissed by Kasie West Review

 Hello Friends : )

I hope you're all doing well, and I want to thank you all for joining me for another book review here on The Preppy Book Princess.

Young Adult Fiction, contemporaries in particular, used to be my all time favorite genre. However, I've been growing more and more disheartened with the objectionable content that's making its way into more and more of these stories, and I've been incredibly disappointed in most of the ones I've chosen to pick up and read so far this year.

However, Kasie West has yet to let me down with any of the books I've read by her, and I was really hoping her new book would be no exception. She's long been one of my favorite authors, and I hope you'll all keep reading to see what I ended up thinking of her newest release.

Sunkissed by Kasie West:

Source: Libby App

Publisher: Delacorte Press

Publication Date: May 4th, 2021

Genre: Young Adult Fiction/Young Adult Contemporary

Synopsis:

Will the stars align?

Avery has always used music as an escape. But after her best friend betrays her, even her perfectly curated playlists can't help her forget what happened. To make matters worse, her parents have dragged her and her social-media-obsessed sister to a remote family camp for two months of "fun." Just when Avery is ready to give up on the summer altogether, she meets Brooks—mysterious, frustratingly charming Brooks—who just happens to be on staff—which means he's off-limits.

What starts as a disaster turns into . . . something else. As the outside world falls away, Avery embarks on a journey of self-discovery. And when Brooks offers her the chance of a lifetime, she must figure out how far is she willing to go to find out what she wants and who she wants to be.

Fan favorite Kasie West is back with another unforgettable summer romance that reminds us falling in love is full of wonder, heartache, and—most of all—surprises.

My Review:

I'll basically read anything that Kasie West writes, and I had high hopes for her newest release. While I wouldn't say that Sunkissed ended up being my favorite of Kasie's books, it was super sweet and swoon worthy and reminded me once again why she's one of my all time favorite authors.

Avery's about to spend the summer at a camp resort with her parent's and younger sister, and she's not sure how she feels about it. She's always been the type to go along with what everyone else wants in order to prevent causing anyone else any trouble, and it's caused her to feel a little lost in the process. When she ends up stumbling into a musician who works at the camp named Brooks, experiences end up coming her way that she never could have seen coming. They start off on the wrong foot, but he soon becomes a big part of her life, and she enjoys getting to be part of the writing process for him and his band. When she gets the opportunity to perform with Brooks, it opens new doors but also causes tension with her parent's, her sister and the rest of the band. Can Avery finally be brave enough to stand up for what she wants; even if the journey to get there seems to be almost impossible.

Sunkissed is a heartwarming contemporary that speaks of first love, familial bonds, and growing up and into the person you were meant to be. I loved the clean and adorable romance, I really enjoyed the camp setting, I loved the way that Avery's relationship with her sister Lauren and their parents is portrayed both realistically and authentically, and I found myself barely able to put this one down once I started it.

I really enjoy the way that Kasie always writes her characters having strong familial bonds, and that she's never gone the absentee parents route that's currently becoming so popular within the young adult genre. I also always appreciate that her romances stay pretty fairly clean, and other than a few mild innuendos, this one didn't stray too far from being squeaky clean which is definitely a rare find within this genre as of late.

My only real issue with this one overall was the fact that I felt the ending ended up being a bit rushed, and I would have liked a little bit more. However, I loved this one overall, and definitely will be recommending it.

Final Rating: 4/5.

Thanks so much for reading guys! Have a great rest of your day. :)

Happy Monday Friends :) I pray today finds you all doing well, and I'm so thankful you decided to stop by my little corner of the internet. My husband and I actually have this week off of work for a much needed holiday, and I'm excited for the many fun things we have planned. A confirmed bachelor, George vacillates between irritation and attraction whenever Willow is around--which to him seems like all too often. He's not interested in expanding his horizons or making new friends; it just hurts too much when you lose them. But as the summer progresses, George feels his defenses crumbling. The quest...
