The Deadly Shallows by Dani Pettrey Review

 Hello Everyone :)

I pray today finds you all doing well, and I'm so thankful you decided to join me, Kirby, here on The Preppy Book Princess today.

I don't think I honestly realized just many suspense books I've been reading lately until I sat down and saw just how many I've reviewed in the past while.

Christian suspense can often be one of my favorite genres, but sometimes it gets a little too much for me, and I definitely prefer some titles over others.

One of my favorite authors within this genre has always been Dani Pettrey, and I'd been on the waiting list for her newest release at the library for quite sometime.

It's another of the titles from my Most Anticipated 2022 Releases Post, and when I finally got the chance to read it, I couldn't wait to dive right in, and today I'm looking forward to sharing with you all what I ended up thinking about it.

If you're interested in checking out my reviews from the first two books in the series, you can do so using the links below:

The Deadly Shallows by Dani Pettrey:

Source: Library

Publisher: Bethany House

Publication Date: July 1st, 2022

Genre: Christian Fiction/Christian Suspense

Series: Coastal Guardians

Synopsis:

A DEADLY ATTACK.
A STOLEN WEAPON CAPABLE OF IMMENSE DESTRUCTION.
A PAINFUL SECRET THAT THREATENS TO TEAR TWO HEARTS APART.

CGIS Agent Noah Rowley is rocked to the core when several of his valued team members come under fire on his Coast Guard base. He and his remaining team race to the scene and end the attack, but not before innocent lives are lost. Furious and grief-stricken, he vows to do whatever is needed to bring the mastermind behind the attack to justice.

Stunned by the ambush, Coast Guard flight medic Brooke Kesler evacuates in a helicopter carrying the only surviving gunman. The gravely wounded man whispers mysterious information to Brooke that immediately paints a target on her back.

As Brooke and Noah race to uncover answers, emotions between them ignite. Noah struggles to protect Brooke at all costs and to conceal the secret that prevents him from becoming what he longs to be--the right man for her.

Everything is at stake as a horrifying truth emerges. . . .

The attack wasn't the end game. It was only the beginning.

Bestselling author Dani Pettrey again delivers a fast-paced story in an acclaimed style readers have come to love: full of snappy dialogue, thrilling adventure romance, and unexpected plot twists.

My Review:

The Coastal Guardians series has been a whirlwind of suspense and action right from the start, and this next installment will definitely keep readers on the edge of their seats.

In The Deadly Shallows, readers are finally treated to Brooke and Noah's story, but also to Austin and Caleb's as well. The team is about to embark on their deadliest mission yet, and it's time to pull out at all the stops. When a shooting on the military base leads to even deadlier intentions, and far more reaching consequences, it'll take the whole team working together to navigate these sinister waters.

Dani Pettrey knows how to write a suspense story that keeps the reader hanging on for every word, and I could barely bring myself to put this one down as I tried to figure out from ever angle I could possibly think of what on earth was going on. I still hadn't completely figured it out by the final reveal, and I love when that's the case with a mystery story, as it always blows me away just how well crafted the entire plot truly was.

Both romances were also well done, and both couples have to learn to navigate difficult circumstances before they can truly feel free to be together. The author definitely touches on a few serious points within this, and I thought everything was handled tastefully and authentically.

A well plotted, character driven, emotional suspense story with wonderfully developed romances made this new release from Dani Pettrey a winner in my eyes. However, my absolute favorite part of it was the faith element, and I loved how the characters continued to battle the darkness in their lives with the light that only Jesus can bring.

I'd say that this was my favorite of the series, and I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys Christian suspense. I don't feel you'd even have to read the first two books beforehand, as I think this one would work perfectly well as a stand alone.

Final Rating: 4/5.

Thanks so much for reading guys! Have a great rest of your day :)

First Line Friday: Courting Mr. Emerson

Happy Friday Everyone :) Since it is Friday, I'll once again be participating in First Line Friday which is hosted by Hoarding Books .  For this week, I'm going to be sharing the first line from Melody Carlson's newest book, Courting Mr. Emerson. About The Book: When the fun-loving and spontaneous artist Willow West meets buttoned-up, retired English teacher George Emerson, it's not exactly love at first sight. Though she does find the obsessive-compulsive man intriguing. Making it her mission to get him to loosen up and embrace life, she embarks on what seems like a lost cause--and finds herself falling for him in the process. A confirmed bachelor, George vacillates between irritation and attraction whenever Willow is around--which to him seems like all too often. He's not interested in expanding his horizons or making new friends; it just hurts too much when you lose them. But as the summer progresses, George feels his defenses crumbling. The quest...

First Line Friday: The Inheritance

Happy Friday Everyone :) I hope you're all had a great week and that you're staying safe no matter where you are. I haven't been leaving my house much lately other than for work, and because of this, I've had lots of reading time on my hands. Last year my hubby and I took a road trip that included a visit to our favorite bookstore, and we decided to each pick a book that wouldn't be our first choice. The purpose was to try and read something that still interested us, but would maybe be a bit different than what we would typically go for first. My pick ended up being The Inheritance by Michael Phillips, a book I actually ended up being quite excited about, despite never having heard of it prior. Unfortunately, it ended up sitting on my bookshelf ever since, and I'm so thankful I finally got the opportunity to pick it up and start reading it this past week. The Inheritance by Michael Phillips: About the Book: The death of the clan patriarch h...
