To Tame a Cowboy by Jody Hedlund Review

 Hello Friends :)

I pray today finds you all doing well, and I want to thank you all for joining me for another book review here on The Preppy Book Princess.

I recently had the chance to read a title that I'd heard nothing but great things about going into it, and I couldn't wait to take a chance on it myself.

Today I'm going to be sharing with you all whether this one lived up to the hype for me or not, and I hope you'll all keep on reading down below for my full review.

To Tame a Cowboy by Jody Hedlund:

Source: Library

Publisher: Bethany House

Publication Date: May 3rd, 2022

Genre: Christian Fiction/Historical Fiction/Cowboy Romance

Series: Colorado Cowboys

Synopsis:

Brody McQuaid is a broken man, and he knows it. While his body survived the war, his soul did not. Besides loving his little niece, his only other sense of purpose comes from saving the wild horses that roam South Park. Ranchers in the area have taken to killing the horses, which are competing with their cattle to feed on the open grass.

Savannah Marshall is a veterinarian on her family's Colorado ranch. She longs to keep her father happy following the tragic death of her older brother, including marrying a man of his choosing. But days before her wedding, she gets cold feet and disappears to South Park. As she learns more about the destruction of the horses, she joins Brody in an attempt to save the wild creatures. But when Savannah's family and the resentments of the area cattlemen catch up with them both, Brody and Savannah will have to tame their fears if they've any hope to let love run free.

My Review:

I went into this one without having read the first two books, and it's possible that might have contributed to my negative experience with this one. I wasn't sure what exactly I was expecting, but it definitely wasn't what I ended up getting, and unfortunately this one ended up being one of my most disappointing reads of the year.

I will say that I do enjoy Jody Hedlund's writing style; especially the way she's able to bring the setting so effortlessly to life on the page. The setting, and the tidbits about the wild mustangs were wonderfully done, and I definitely enjoyed those segments. I also appreciated that there was a faith element present, and how it was showcased that faith can help us through even the darkest of times. That was beautiful, and was my favorite part of the story.

However, the rest of it just did not work for me. I found Brody and Savannah to both be completely insufferable, and I couldn't keep myself from cringing over the many selfish and disastrous decisions they both continue to make over and over again throughout the course of the plot. Neither one of them ever redeemed themselves in my eyes, and I felt like the growth and maturity they both so desperately needed never seemed to happen.

I also have to comment about how over the top I thought the romance was for a Christian novel. It was pretty sensual, and I could have personally done without some of the content that didn't seem remotely necessary. I wasn't personally a fan of Brody's aggressive and controlling tendencies; especially the jealousy that surfaces when Savannah's fiancĂ© is mentioned, and I really struggled with even wanting to finish reading this one.

Final Rating: 2/5.

I'm glad I took a chance on one of the titles in this series, but I don't think I'll be reading any of the others.

Thanks so much for reading guys! Have a great rest of your day :)
