The Spirit of the Season by Dana Corbit Review

 Happy Monday Friends :)

I pray today finds you all doing well, and I'm so thankful you chose to start your day by stopping on by The Preppy Book Princess today.

I'm Kirby, and I'm so grateful you're here.

It's the third week of October, and honestly while I love fall, I don't enjoy Halloween whatsoever. I'm anxiously awaiting it to be over, so we can move on with celebrating Christmas, the greatest season of them all.

I've already shared a few Christmas book reviews on my blog this year, which you can find if you're interested by using the 2023 Christmas Read Tag below the end of this post.

However, it seems like a good day to share another with you all today, so I'm going to go ahead and do so.

However, this one is part of a series, and if you'd like to check out my reviews of some of the other titles in the series, you can go ahead and do so using the links below.

I am posting this one a little bit out of order, but I wanted to go ahead and share it before the Christmas season, so this one will be posted before my reviews of some of the other titles in this series.

Publication Date: September 9th, 2008

Genre: Christian Fiction/Small Town Series

Series: Tales from Grace Chapel Inn

Synopsis:

Once readers visit the charming village of Acorn Hill they'll never want to leave. Three sisters-Louise, a widow from Philadelphia; Alice, an unmarried nurse who lived with her father; and Jane, a divorced chef from San Francisco-reunite in the sleepy town after their father's death and turn the family home into a charming bed-and-breakfast. Here the sisters rekindle old memories, rediscover their childhood bonds, revel in the blessings of friendship and meet fascinating guests along the way.-------

It's December and Acorn Hill is festive, but the Howard sisters are about to discover that Christmas doesn't always mean peace on earth. A misunderstanding between Florence Simpson and her husband Ronald has Florence jetting off to Florida-and feisty Ethel has just the solution. She sets off after her friend and drags Alice and Ronald with her, determined to convince Florence that her marriage is worth fighting for. Can she get through to the couple in time to make it back to Acorn Hill by Christmas? Meanwhile, the downtown merchants of Acorn Hill start a Secret Santa program, and Jane sees a special way to arrange a special Secret Santa delivery for a needy family in town. As Christmas gets closer, they all begin to get into the spirit of the season.

My Review:

I've enjoyed every title I've read so far from the multi author Tales From Grace Chapel Inn series, and The Spirit of the Season ended up being a new favorite.

While I wasn't sure I was going to end up enjoying this one as much, since the story set up is a bit different from any of the previous titles, it ended up being a wonderful and heartwarming read, made all the more festive by it taking place at Christmas.

Sisters Louise, Alice and Jane are looking forward to a quiet Christmas season at their inn this year. However, plans suddenly take a surprising turn, and Alice finds herself accompanying her aunt Ethel and a friend to Florida, and Louise and Jane find themselves will a houseful of guests who need to rediscover the joy of the Christmas season. As each sister tries to maneuver her way through difficult decisions and shine a light for Jesus, the reader is treated to a heartwarming tale that showcases some of the life's many difficulties, and focuses on the only one who can truly help us through them.

Without giving away spoilers, certain situations in this book really touched my heart, and I was thankful the author included them, and didn't sugarcoat how devastating the effects can be.

This was another wonderful visit to Grace Chapel Inn, and I'd highly recommend this one to anyone looking for a heartwarming read this holiday season that truly highlights the reason for the season.

Final Rating: 4/5.

Thanks so much for reading guys! Have a great rest of your day :)

First Line Friday: Courting Mr. Emerson

Happy Friday Everyone :) Since it is Friday, I'll once again be participating in First Line Friday which is hosted by Hoarding Books .  For this week, I'm going to be sharing the first line from Melody Carlson's newest book, Courting Mr. Emerson. About The Book: When the fun-loving and spontaneous artist Willow West meets buttoned-up, retired English teacher George Emerson, it's not exactly love at first sight. Though she does find the obsessive-compulsive man intriguing. Making it her mission to get him to loosen up and embrace life, she embarks on what seems like a lost cause--and finds herself falling for him in the process. A confirmed bachelor, George vacillates between irritation and attraction whenever Willow is around--which to him seems like all too often. He's not interested in expanding his horizons or making new friends; it just hurts too much when you lose them. But as the summer progresses, George feels his defenses crumbling. The quest...

First Line Friday: The Inheritance

Happy Friday Everyone :) I hope you're all had a great week and that you're staying safe no matter where you are. I haven't been leaving my house much lately other than for work, and because of this, I've had lots of reading time on my hands. Last year my hubby and I took a road trip that included a visit to our favorite bookstore, and we decided to each pick a book that wouldn't be our first choice. The purpose was to try and read something that still interested us, but would maybe be a bit different than what we would typically go for first. My pick ended up being The Inheritance by Michael Phillips, a book I actually ended up being quite excited about, despite never having heard of it prior. Unfortunately, it ended up sitting on my bookshelf ever since, and I'm so thankful I finally got the opportunity to pick it up and start reading it this past week. The Inheritance by Michael Phillips: About the Book: The death of the clan patriarch h...

I'm excited to be taking part in another edition of First Line Friday hosted by Hoarding Books , but I'm also excited to be featuring one of my favorite author's new releases for this week's edition. First Line Friday simply consists of sharing the first line from the book you're currently reading, and today I'm going to be sharing from Mandi Blake's new book, which released last week. Remembering the Cowboy by Mandi Blake: About the Book: They have unfinished business. She just can’t remember what it is. Camille Vanderbilt is headed back home to Wyoming with one goal: find her old best friend and give him a piece of her mind for ghosting her six years ago. She won’t let anyone stand in her way… until a deer runs into the road and causes her to wreck and forget almost everything. Noah Harding lives a simple life as a firefighter and rancher until Camille cras...
