Eyes on Me by Rachel Harris Review

 Hello Bookish Lovelies :)

I pray today finds you all doing well, and I'm so thankful you've taken the time to drop on by The Preppy Book Princess today for another book review.

I'm Kirby, and I'm delighted you're here.

Currently, I mainly read Christian fiction, however there's still a few secular genres I enjoy, and you will still see those reviews pop up sporadically on my blog.

However, I do want to go ahead and mention today that as a Christian, I still feel it's my duty to mention the content included in even the non-Christian titles I read. I feel convicted to do so, and yes I realize that secular titles aren't going to be like Christian titles, but I do still feel it's important to highlight the content levels for readers to know if it's a title they'd feel comfortable reading or not.

Rachel Harris is an author I've read several books from over the years, and I actually had the wonderful opportunity to meet her back in April of 2016 at the RT Book Lovers convention. She was sweet, friendly, and just as wonderful as she appears online, and I continue to adore getting to dive into her contemporary young adult romances.

Today's review is going to be of a new to me title by her, and I hope you'll all keep on reading down below to find out what I ended up thinking about it.

Eyes on Me by Rachel Harris:

Source: Bought for Myself

Publisher: Entangled Teen

Publication Date: March 26th, 2019

Genre: Young Adult Fiction/Contemporary Romance

Synopsis:

From New York Times bestselling author Rachel Harris, a fun, flirty romance perfect for fans of Sarah Dessen or Huntley Fitzpatrick that proves it’s what’s on the inside that really counts.

Look up the word “nerd” and you’ll find Lily Bailey’s picture. She’s got one goal: first stop valedictorian, next stop Harvard. Until a stint in the hospital from too much stress lands her in the last place a klutz like her ever expected to be: salsa dance lessons.

Look up the word “popular” and you’ll find Stone Torres’s picture. His life seems perfect—star of the football team, small-town hero, lots of friends. But his family is struggling to make ends meet, so if pitching in at his mom's dance studio helps, he’ll do it.

When Lily’s dad offers Stone extra cash to volunteer as Lily’s permanent dance partner, he can’t refuse. But with each dip and turn, each moment her hand is in his, his side job starts to feel all too real. Lily shows Stone he's more than his impressive football stats, and he introduces her to a world outside of studying. But with the lines blurred, can their relationship survive the secret he's been hiding?

My Review:

I picked this one up during a time period where I was going through some really rough stuff, and I honestly just wanted to lose myself in a sweet and swoon worthy young adult romance. Rachel Harris has been an author I've enjoyed immensely in the past, and the synopsis of this one sounded fun and entertaining, and I was hoping it was going to end up being a positive experience.

Rachel Harris has a way of writing fun loving romances that truly make me not want to have to put the book down. I ended up reading the majority of this one in one sitting, and while it did give me the respite I was looking for, I also appreciated that it tackled some deeper issues like grief, parental neglect, and living with anxiety.

Stone and Lily's romance is truly adorbs, and I loved it. It's definitely an opposites attract situation, but I loved how their awkward pairing turns into an amazing friendship that grows into something much more. Lily's wittiness matched perfectly with Stone's cockiness, and the two of them are definitely a young adult couple that I could truly find myself wanting to root for.

This actually would have ended up being a five star read for me, if it had only been a bit on the cleaner side. There was definitely some innuendos I could have done without, and the language included did seem excessive and unnecessary. If it hadn't been for those things, this definitely would have made my best books of the year list.

Final Rating: 3/5.

Still a wonderful contemporary romance with plenty of snarky and swoon worthy bits, and I'm still hopeful that readers will get Angela and Chase's story in the future.

Thanks so much for reading guys! Have a great rest of your day :)

Della and Darby by Susannah B. Lewis Review

Happy Monday Friends :) I pray today finds you all doing well, and I'm so thankful you decided to stop by my little corner of the internet. My husband and I actually have this week off of work for a much needed holiday, and I'm excited for the many fun things we have planned. Aside from the fun things, I'm honestly thankful to have some extra time to get my house back in shape, and to get more organized for Christmas. I also hope to have lots of time to curl up with some great reads, and I recently had a chance to read one of my most anticipated 2023 releases! Earlier in the year, I read my first novel by Susannah B. Lewis, and I couldn't have loved it more. It was definitely one of my favorite reads of this entire year, and I've been looking forward to reading her next release ever since. If you'd like to check out that review, you can do so using the link below: Bless Your Heart Rae Sutton Otherwise, keep on reading down below for today's full review. De...

First Line Friday: Courting Mr. Emerson

Happy Friday Everyone :) Since it is Friday, I'll once again be participating in First Line Friday which is hosted by Hoarding Books .  For this week, I'm going to be sharing the first line from Melody Carlson's newest book, Courting Mr. Emerson. About The Book: When the fun-loving and spontaneous artist Willow West meets buttoned-up, retired English teacher George Emerson, it's not exactly love at first sight. Though she does find the obsessive-compulsive man intriguing. Making it her mission to get him to loosen up and embrace life, she embarks on what seems like a lost cause--and finds herself falling for him in the process. A confirmed bachelor, George vacillates between irritation and attraction whenever Willow is around--which to him seems like all too often. He's not interested in expanding his horizons or making new friends; it just hurts too much when you lose them. But as the summer progresses, George feels his defenses crumbling. The quest...

Top Ten Tuesday: Ten Characters I'd name a child/cat/dog/car/ etc After.

Happy Tuesday guys! I enjoyed Top Ten Tuesday so much last week, that I decided to go ahead and take part again this week. Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and The Bookish, and here's the link to the main page if you're interested in becoming a part of it: http://www.brokeandbookish.com/p/top-ten-tuesday-other-features.html Today's topic is: Ten Characters I'd Name A Child/Cat/Dog/Car/ etc After, and I think it's going to be a really fun one. First, Characters I'd Name a Pet after: 1) Katsa from Kristin Cashore's Graceling: I have to start with Katsa, since it is actually what we named our adorable black and white kitten almost a year ago. She's grown so much since this picture, but this was taken right after we decided on her name. We tried several different book characters, but Katsa is the one she loved right away, and so is what we ended up going with. 2) Rose from Richelle Mead's Vampire Academ...
