Landy Park by Bethany Hagen Review

 Hello Everyone :)

I pray today finds you all doing well, and I'm so thankful you chose to stop by The Preppy Book Princess today for another book review.

If you've been around for awhile, then you'd probably already be aware of the fact that I primarily share reviews of the many Christian fiction titles I read on a regular basis.

However, I do change things up once in awhile, and today I'm here to share a review with you all of a title that had been sitting on my bookshelves for quite sometime.

I hope you'll all keep on reading down below to join me for today's full review.

Landry Park by Bethany Hagen:

Source: Gift from my Hubby

Publisher: Speak

Publication Date: January 22nd, 2015

Genre: Young Adult Fiction/Dystopian

Series: Landy Park

Synopsis:

Sixteen-year-old Madeline Landry is practically Gentry royalty. Her ancestor developed the nuclear energy that has replaced electricity, and her parents exemplify the glamour of the upper class. As for Madeline, she would much rather read a book than attend yet another debutante ball. But when she learns about the devastating impact the Gentry lifestyle—her lifestyle—is having on those less fortunate, her whole world is turned upside down.  As Madeline begins to question everything she has been told, she finds herself increasingly drawn to handsome, beguiling David Dana, who seems to be hiding secrets of his own. Soon, rumors of war and rebellion start to spread, and Madeline finds herself at the center of it all. Ultimately, she must make a choice between duty—her family and the estate she loves dearly—and desire.

My Review:

I used to be someone that gobbled up dystopian novels as fast as I could get my hands on them. While certain titles from this genre (like The Hunger Games), remain all time favorites, overall, I feel like I've kind of grown out of these types of stories. However, Landy Park has been tying up shelf space on my bookshelf pretty much since it first released, and since the synopsis sounded intriguing, I decided to go ahead and give it a go.

Bethany Hagen has a creative way of telling her story that truly pulls the reader right into everything happening around them. It was interesting since I thought the world building was slightly weak, and I really didn't care for any of the main characters, and yet I was still invested enough to want to keep on carrying on with the story. It reminded me heavily of The Lone City trilogy, although I will say overall I thought that series was a bit better plotted and developed.

Landy Park is interesting, and I was quite surprised by some of the plot twists throughout the story. I'm not sorry I chose to pick it up, and I probably will go on to read the sequel. However, I thought the plot dragged a bit, it included quite a bit more objectionable content than I was expecting, and it's actually quite a bit more gruesome than one would expect from reading the synopsis.

Final Rating: 3/5.

Enjoyable and I would recommend to someone looking for another dystopian tale to try out. However, when compared to the many amazing titles available already within this genre, this one slightly pales in comparison.

Thanks so much for reading guys! Have a great rest of your day :)

Della and Darby by Susannah B. Lewis Review

Happy Monday Friends :) I pray today finds you all doing well, and I'm so thankful you decided to stop by my little corner of the internet. My husband and I actually have this week off of work for a much needed holiday, and I'm excited for the many fun things we have planned. Aside from the fun things, I'm honestly thankful to have some extra time to get my house back in shape, and to get more organized for Christmas. I also hope to have lots of time to curl up with some great reads, and I recently had a chance to read one of my most anticipated 2023 releases! Earlier in the year, I read my first novel by Susannah B. Lewis, and I couldn't have loved it more. It was definitely one of my favorite reads of this entire year, and I've been looking forward to reading her next release ever since. If you'd like to check out that review, you can do so using the link below: Bless Your Heart Rae Sutton Otherwise, keep on reading down below for today's full review. De...

First Line Friday: Courting Mr. Emerson

Happy Friday Everyone :) Since it is Friday, I'll once again be participating in First Line Friday which is hosted by Hoarding Books .  For this week, I'm going to be sharing the first line from Melody Carlson's newest book, Courting Mr. Emerson. About The Book: When the fun-loving and spontaneous artist Willow West meets buttoned-up, retired English teacher George Emerson, it's not exactly love at first sight. Though she does find the obsessive-compulsive man intriguing. Making it her mission to get him to loosen up and embrace life, she embarks on what seems like a lost cause--and finds herself falling for him in the process. A confirmed bachelor, George vacillates between irritation and attraction whenever Willow is around--which to him seems like all too often. He's not interested in expanding his horizons or making new friends; it just hurts too much when you lose them. But as the summer progresses, George feels his defenses crumbling. The quest...

Top Ten Tuesday: Ten Characters I'd name a child/cat/dog/car/ etc After.

Happy Tuesday guys! I enjoyed Top Ten Tuesday so much last week, that I decided to go ahead and take part again this week. Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and The Bookish, and here's the link to the main page if you're interested in becoming a part of it: http://www.brokeandbookish.com/p/top-ten-tuesday-other-features.html Today's topic is: Ten Characters I'd Name A Child/Cat/Dog/Car/ etc After, and I think it's going to be a really fun one. First, Characters I'd Name a Pet after: 1) Katsa from Kristin Cashore's Graceling: I have to start with Katsa, since it is actually what we named our adorable black and white kitten almost a year ago. She's grown so much since this picture, but this was taken right after we decided on her name. We tried several different book characters, but Katsa is the one she loved right away, and so is what we ended up going with. 2) Rose from Richelle Mead's Vampire Academ...
