In This Moment by Gabrielle Meyer Review

 Hello Friends :)

I pray today finds you all doing well, and I'm so thankful you chose to take the time to stop by The Preppy Book Princess today.

It's been a bit of a crazy week around here as work has been a bit insane, so I've been enjoying escaping into some great fiction novels in the evenings as a way to destress a bit.

In 2022, I had the pleasure of reading a wonderful Christian time travel novel. If you know me, you know I've long loved reading time travel books, and I'm so thankful that some of these are finally finding their way into the Christian fiction market.

You can check out the review of that book using the link below:

When the Day Comes

I loved it so much, and I ended up including the second book on my "2023 list of my most anticipated releases" post.

I finally got the chance to read this highly anticipated follow up, and today I can't wait to share with you all what I ended up thinking about it.

Keep reading down below for my full review.

In This Moment by Gabrielle Meyer:

Source: Library

Publisher: Bethany House

Publication Date: May 2nd, 2023

Genre: Christian Fiction/Time Travel

Series: Timeless

Synopsis:

Maggie inherited a gift from her time-crossing parents that allows her to live three separate lives in 1861, 1941, and 2001. Each night she goes to sleep in one time period and wakes up in another. Until, that is, she turns twenty-one, when she will have to forfeit two of those lives--and everyone she knows in them--forever.

In 1861, Maggie is the daughter of an influential senator at the outbreak of the Civil War, navigating a capital full of Southern spies and wounded soldiers. In 1941, she is a Navy nurse, grappling with her knowledge of the future when she's asked to join a hospital ship being sent to Pearl Harbor. And in 2001, she's a brilliant young medical student, fulfilling her dream of becoming a surgeon, yet unable to use her modern skills in her other paths.

While Maggie has sworn off romance until she makes her final choice, an intriguing man tugs at her heart in each era. The mysterious British gentleman. The prickly, demanding doctor. The charming young congressman. She's drawn to each man in different ways, only complicating the impossible decision she must make, which looms ever closer.

With so much on the line, how can Maggie choose just one life to keep and the rest to lose?

My Review:

When the Day Comes ended up being one of my favorite reads of 2022. With that being said, In This Moment had pretty big shoes to fill in my eyes. I'm happy to say that it was every bit as wonderful as it's predecessor, and was a worthy follow up that kept me engaged, and had me wanting so much more when the ending rolled around.

Gabrielle Meyer is a masterful storyteller who is able to weave together three stories across three vastly differing time periods that interconnect, stay truthful to history, and keep faith at the front and center. As someone who has been reading time travel books for as long as I can remember, I can wholeheartedly state that these are some of the most original stories within this genre I've ever personally picked up.  I love that more authors are tackling these stories within the Christian fiction genre.

Maggie is a character I think most readers will be able to sympathize with, and I loved her big heart for the world around her, and the way she's determined to make the most of everything she's been given. As someone who is not a fan whatsoever of love triangles, I was a little leery of the romance element hinted at from the synopsis, but I ended up being pleasantly surprised with the way everything turns out.

As with any book focusing around having to choose a specific path, I knew the ending would tug at the heartstrings, and possibly leave me slightly disappointed, but I ended up being happy overall with how everything turned out for Maggie, and I especially loved the epilogue.

If you're looking for a wonderful, heart racing, inspirational historical romance that includes speculative elements, and a wonderful look into different time periods in history, then this is definitely the book you've been waiting for.

You could read this as a stand alone, but since the first novel is every bit as wonderful, do yourself a big favor and go ahead and read both!

All in all, I loved this one, and I can't wait to carry on with the next books in the series.

Final Rating: 5/5.

Thanks so much for reading guys! Have a great rest of your day!

First Line Friday: All's Fair in Love and Cupcakes

Happy Friday Everyone :) I hope you've all had a great week, and that you're looking forward to the weekend. Today I'm excited to once again be linking up with Hoarding Books for First Line Friday. First Line Friday is one of my favorite weekly memes, and it simply consists of sharing the first line of the book you're currently reading. I've had a lot of extra reading time on my hands lately because of all the social distancing, and as such, I've been able to read a lot of the titles that have been sitting on my shelves for quite some time. Today's book is one of such titles, and I'm happy that I finally found the time to get to it as I'm really enjoying it so far. All's Fair in Love and Cupcakes by Betsy St. Amant: About the Book: Kat inspected rows of the same old cupcakes. They seemed to blink back at her, as if they knew she was capable of so much more. Kat Varland has had enough of chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry. At twenty-six years old...
