Book Review: Melody's Key by Dallas Corryell

Hey Guys!

A few weeks ago I was contacted by author Dallas Coryell, asking if I'd be interested in reviewing his book, Melody's Key.

After reading the synopsis, I was definitely interested, and jumped at the opportunity to get to read and review this novel.

I finished it a few days ago, and I'm excited to get to share my thoughts about it today with all of you guys. :)

Dallas Coryell is a musician and author residing deep in the untamed wilds of Michigan, USA, where he desperately attempts to assign meaning to his world through bouts of maniacal creative catharsis and pitifully doomed romantic fantasies. Synopsis:

"His eyes settled on her...piercing green embers of flame that revealed the ferocity of his pain and passion, yet still shrouded him under veils of ever deepening that made every ounce of her ache to unravel him."

Tegan Lockwood's dreams were dead, sacrificed on the noble altar before they ever had a chance to live. Her entire existence was disappearing into the abyss as she labored her days away keeping her family's struggling business alive. There would be no emotion, no color, no beauty in her life. That is, until a mysterious visitor begins to draw her out of the darkness of her past towards something that will challenge the boundaries of her world, and unlock the most deeply held secrets of her heart.

I was provided with a copy of this novel by the author in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are one hundred percent my own.

My Review:

When I was contacted by Dallas Coryell about reading and reviewing Melody's Key, I quickly ran to goodreads to read the synopsis for this book. I was instantly intrigued when I saw that it had one of my all time favorite tropes "the famous person falling for the regular person" as it's main basis, and I found myself going into this novel with extremely high expectations.

Melody's Key is told from Tegan Lockwood's point of view. Tegan is not your typical young adult, as she's had to sacrifice a lot, in order to help her family keep their beloved estate in a wealthy part of England. Tegan has a creative personality that's manifested itself in art and music, and she's been the lucky recipient of an art scholarship to Colombia University. Not only would this scholarship mean getting to pursue her dreams, but it would also mean getting to see another part of the world, the big beautiful New York City. However, familial duties always come first, and after Tegan finds out that her family lacks the finances to send her to Colombia, and that they can't afford to lose her as a valuable employee in the resort they run on their estate during the summer, she's forced to turn down the opportunity.

Tegan is also hiding within herself due to a traumatic experience with her town's "golden boy", and her song writing capabilities, together with an old treasure chest of her ancestor's love letters, are where she chooses to loose herself in. By day Tegan and her family cater to the wealthy vacationers that descend on their home, by night she takes out her frustrations at the piano, writing beautiful love songs that she never allows anyone the chance to get to hear. However, her world is about to be changed in ways she could never imagine when her family agrees to house "pretty boy" rock star Mason Keane for the summer, to help him avoid the public eye.

Mason comes from a world that Tegan can't begin to understand. Her family's fighting financial ruin each and every year in order to keep their beloved ancestral home, and Mason's worth millions, and she's sure that he couldn't possibly have a care in the world. Their first encounter further proves this point in Tegan's mind, and she's left wondering how on earth she's ever going to survive having him in her home this summer. Mason is definitely not how he first came across, and soon this swoon worthy rocker is showing Tegan how to believe in herself, and how to take a chance on love after all she's been through.

The chemistry between Mason and Tegan was spot on and heart wrenching to read, and I loved how big of a role Tegan's family plays in the overall story. Of course, things are never as they first appear, and when Tegan gets a peak into Mason's past she's forced to question whether she can truly trust herself to judge his character. or if she's made a huge mistake in letting her guard down in the first place.

Melody's Key was a poignant, heartfelt story about taking a chance on life and love, and I loved every single page. I gave this novel four out of five stars, and it made it even more real to me that all the songs that Tegan and Mason compose together in the story are actual songs that author Dallas Coryell has written and performed on his Youtube channel. I went into this novel with high expectations, but I was expecting light and fluffy. Instead I got an emotional roller coaster of a ride that had me lingering over each page, so as not to miss any of the beautiful story unfolding before my eyes. I gave this novel four out of five stars, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking to pick up a new New Adult romance.

Thanks so much to Dallas Coryell for the opportunity to have read this! And all photo credits go to the respective owners.

Thanks so much for reading guys! I hope you all have a great weekend, and I can't wait to share more bookish content with you guys on Monday! :)

A confirmed bachelor, George vacillates between irritation and attraction whenever Willow is around--which to him seems like all too often. He's not interested in expanding his horizons or making new friends; it just hurts too much when you lose them. But as the summer progresses, George feels his defenses crumbling. The quest...
