Blogmas Day Five: Building A Book Christmas Tree

Guys, It's already Blogmas Day Five!

Christmas is going to be here before we know it, and I honestly think I'm going to miss doing these daily posts on my blog. It's definitely something I'll have to consider doing again in the future. :)

Today's post is kind of a fun one for me, as last year I saw so many amazing Bookish Christmas trees on Pinterest and other blogs and Youtube and such, but alas I never ended up getting the time to make one. I knew this year I just had to go ahead and do it, and I can honestly say that I was very happy with the results, and so I definitely wanted to include a post on it during Blogmas.

So for Blogmas Day 5, Here's my book Christmas Tree!

The process started out with making sure I had lots of piles of books ready to grab before I needed them. I had done a couple of circles originally, before I realized the books I had on the bottom weren't heavy enough, so I took it apart again and put books like my Twilight books on the bottom instead.

As you can tell, Katsa was extremely intrigued by the whole process and kept trying to figure out a way to climb into the middle of the circle.

Once Neil and I got a rhythm going, I was actually really surprised with how easy it was, and it started to take shape pretty quickly.

The finished product was amazing, and exactly what I was hoping for. It made me laugh however that Neil insisted on using his white set of the Throne Of Glass books as the tree topper. Guys he's a little too obsessed with this particular book collection.

I was definitely impressed with our final result, and I look forward to getting to have this decorating my living room throughout the holiday season. Although, I hope I don't end up wanting to read any of the books included in it before that.

I was a little nervous before starting this process, just because I wasn't sure I exactly knew what I was doing, and so, I thought I would include a few quick tips in this post on making one of these trees if any of you guys are also considering doing so!

1) If at all possible, use hardcover books! I tried including soft covers a couple of times, and it made the tree flimsier in those areas, and didn't feel as sturdy. I ended up exchanging them back out of the tree with hardcovers, and it definitely made the tree extra stable.

2) Use big, heavy books as the base of your tree. The bottom books have a lot of weight to uphold, and so having those huge intimidating 500 plus page books from your  TBR Pile is definitely the way to go.

3) When making the circles, make sure that your fluctuating the books from one circle to the next so you're covering all the open spaces. Don't place the books directly on top of one another from one circle to the next, as this will leave open spaces that will cause your tree to be flimsier and not able to stay upright properly.

4) This is just a fun suggestion, but try and include some of your favorite books on the side that's going to be facing out. That way everyone can see those pretty books, and know what type of books you tend to like to read.

5) Lastly, build your tree on a stable surface. I chose our hardwood floor as I figured it would provide proper support.

Thanks so much for reading guys, and please let me know if you end up making one of these, I'd love to see how yours turned out! I know I'm already enjoying looking at the #bookchristmastree hashtag on Instagram!

I hope you all enjoy the rest of your day, and I'll see you all back here tomorrow for Blogmas Day 6!

First Line Friday: Courting Mr. Emerson

Happy Friday Everyone :) Since it is Friday, I'll once again be participating in First Line Friday which is hosted by Hoarding Books .  For this week, I'm going to be sharing the first line from Melody Carlson's newest book, Courting Mr. Emerson. About The Book: When the fun-loving and spontaneous artist Willow West meets buttoned-up, retired English teacher George Emerson, it's not exactly love at first sight. Though she does find the obsessive-compulsive man intriguing. Making it her mission to get him to loosen up and embrace life, she embarks on what seems like a lost cause--and finds herself falling for him in the process. A confirmed bachelor, George vacillates between irritation and attraction whenever Willow is around--which to him seems like all too often. He's not interested in expanding his horizons or making new friends; it just hurts too much when you lose them. But as the summer progresses, George feels his defenses crumbling. The quest...

First Line Friday: The Inheritance

Happy Friday Everyone :) I hope you're all had a great week and that you're staying safe no matter where you are. I haven't been leaving my house much lately other than for work, and because of this, I've had lots of reading time on my hands. Last year my hubby and I took a road trip that included a visit to our favorite bookstore, and we decided to each pick a book that wouldn't be our first choice. The purpose was to try and read something that still interested us, but would maybe be a bit different than what we would typically go for first. My pick ended up being The Inheritance by Michael Phillips, a book I actually ended up being quite excited about, despite never having heard of it prior. Unfortunately, it ended up sitting on my bookshelf ever since, and I'm so thankful I finally got the opportunity to pick it up and start reading it this past week. The Inheritance by Michael Phillips: About the Book: The death of the clan patriarch h...

Noah Harding lives a simple life as a firefighter and rancher until Camille cras...
